Hi All-

I originally went to my doctor because i had burning and pressure right in the center of my chest. I am a healthy young person so they ran a few tests and confirmed my heart and lungs looked fine. They suggested it could be Acid Reflux related.

Here are my symptoms: burning, pressure feeling in chest. Dull pain in back behind shoulder blades. Sometimes feels like there is a 20lb. weight on my chest. Also there is the feeling at times that there is a lump in my throat. Right now things have been almost non-stop for a week, sometimes worse than others. I am not taking anything yet.

I do not have any bad tastes in my mouth, or stomach acid gurgling in my throat. Also no problems swallowing. No other digestive problems. Some of the pressure seems to be relieved by burping, but again no sign of stomach acid then.

Does this seem like Gerd?

Thanks in advance-

SBee

Hi SBee

Don't know if you saw my posting below, but it sounds like we are in the same boat. I am 24, active, and have never had digestive problems. However, I was diagnosed with GERD three weeks ago because of chest pains.

It just came out of nowhere, and I think these early stages are the scariest because you don't know what the pain means or where it is coming from.

I have done a crap load of research and I suggest you: read up on GERD, know about the tests that can be done, learn about the drugs, and begin with preventative activities first (raising bed, eliminating caffine/fat/citrus, more exercise).

I am on lansoprazole and it has helped with the pain, but I am still uncomfortable most days. Little twinges of pain here and there. I am currently waiting for several test results (H. pylori, manometry), but am already thinking about surgery...because I will NOT put up with this nono

Don't worry tooooo much though. Things could be worse.

Thank you for the kind responses. It's just so weird - this has come on so suddenly and just won't go away.
I wonder what i did to bring this on. I have a really good diet; fruit, vegetables, lean protein, etc. Hardly ever anything processed or fried. My life has been pretty stressful lately, i guess that could have contributed.
I am going in for more testing on the 18th.
The chest pressure is really surprising. Almost like something pushing up from the top of your stomach into your chest and throat. yuck.

the bad thing is...i have gone to 2 doctors about this and talked to 2 doctors I know on a personal basis...and no one seems to understand this stuff.

The "specialist" told me there is no way gerd causes chest pain...my friend who is a doctor working across the street from the expert thought that was the craziest thing he had ever heard. The chest pain is UNREAL!!!!!!!!!!!!
