Last week my doctor told me I have acid reflux. I am going to see a specialist next week for an endoscopy and then a biopsy. For me it's like a heartburn everytime I swallow. I dont know that much about it, but my mom has it and she is also anemic and has some wheat allergey that has to do w/ anemia she never told me much about it. But my doctor says there is a big possibility I might have that too. But can anyone tell me what are the main causes of GERD? And also is it genetic or something because I am only 14 and my mom did say it was weird I have it at this age. So I'd really appreciate if someone could just tell me somethings i need to know about it...

If you have reflux problems, they may suggest you get a special pillow to lift your head up while you are sleeping. They will tell you not to drink caffein (some sodas have caffeine) coffee or regular tea and not to smoke. You should not be overweight. You must avoid all the foods that cause your symptoms to act up, for me that is tomato sauce and orange juice. though I can have a tomato or an orange with no problem. Some also have problems with peppermint. You should not eat greasy or fatty foods. They may suggest you only have small meals rather than big meals and not to sleep after eating.  You can sleep after 3 or 4 hours after eating.  The whole thing is a bit much to take but just do your best. Take care of yourself and good luck.
