Hi Tucci
I happened to stumble upon your post during my first visit here. I can relate to your problem. Last year I got laid off after 12 years with the same company. Needless to say, it sent me into a downward spiral of anxiety and depression, all accompanied by chest pains I thought for sure were signs of a heart attack. After cardiac stress tests, an upper GI, endoscopy, chest x-rays, and a whole battery of other tests, it was determined that I was suffering from GERD caused by my anxiety and depression. It was a really frightening time and everything seemed to get better once I addressed my depression with medication and therapy. Now I can eat pretty much what I want, and I usually do. I have eliminated coffee, though.
I hope you're able to get through your difficulty.

I have depression but never had anxieity. However my GERD symptoms were so bad, they have stressed me out. Now that everything is over, I am more relaxed. I have to meet my new GI guy and am kind of upset about the whole thing. Some of these "MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS" are beyond belief. You become an object in their power and greed trips. There are some good docs out there though. P.S. I am not an ideal patient but I am a beautiful genius. Hey, what do they expect? Everything?

Anxiety and depression will definately wreak havoc on your digestive system.  I suffer from both and my health is really paying for it still.  It really stinks.

Have you tried taking any anti anxiety meds to see if they help?

I am pretty certain my GERD was brought on by a stress and anxiety. I also notice that I feel the symptoms more when I'm anxious. I have since addressed my issues and have my anxiety under control. I feel a lot better and almost normal although I am still on PPIs. I'm waiting to feel 100% better and then I'm going to stop taking the meds.
