i am a reletivley newbie to the wonderful world of gerd. my symptoms started with the burning liquid in the back of my throat and a feeling of a lump in my throat.
since being diagnoised i have  been on medication which i can honestly say does help.
i would just like a bit of advice if anyone out there can help.
can gerd cause you to get really bad aching in your rib/chest/shoulder area? i ask this cos a few times now i have had these achinesses and sometimes its that bad i cannot stand having a bra on.
i also suffer with health anxiety,  and tend to automatically think the worst.
does anyone else with reflux get rib.chest or shoulder ache. if so how or what do u do to ease it.
many thanks

Hi Pinkpenny

Yes I get the chest pains and it radiates up my arm and even into my jaw.

I like you suffer from severe and I mean severe health anxiety. I finally went back to the doc becasue of swallowing issues and she has referred me to a GI to get scoped. I cannot even put in words how petrified I am to have this done I am so scared they are going to find something serious. I have put this off for a couple of years getting it checked but when the swallowing issues came up I decided enough is enough I cannot take this any more. It is time to quit asking the what ifs and just get a acurate diagnosis regardless of what happens.

Hope you will be well soon

I get chest pain from heartburn pretty badly if I go off my GERD diet. The only thing that really helps my pain is to take a Lortab that I have for fibromyalgia.

Nothing else helps with that pain.

I was on Nexium for 4 months and didn't care for it and felt it didn't help that much. Now on Prevacid SoluTabs and still having similar side effects of hair loss and constipation.

Hypothyroidism (1953), diabetes type 2 (1976), hypercholesterolemia (1989), gastroparesis (1990), FMS (1995), and GERD (2006).

FMS: Prozac, Xanax, Lortab.

Other meds: Prevacid, Cytomel, Detrol, Reglan, Novolog insulin, Novolin N insulin, Bumex, Lipitor.

chest pain that radiates into your jaw and into your arms can be the symptoms of a hiatus or hiatal hernia... You can read more about it here... I have this also... I have gone to the ER a couple of times 'cause I thought I was having a heart attack, but the EKG was fine, and they said I had GERD and a hiatus Hernia... good luck to you...
