Hi everyone,
I am really hating this.  After vomiting blood about 2 years ago I needed an endoscopy.  It showed instantly that I had Gerd.  I am a 27 year old male.  I try to follow a strict diet and usually stay which is my own fault.  I am curious of anyone that has had the operation to get rid of Gerd?  I wake up with a constant cough, horseness in my voice, lump in my throat, burp and feel short of breath after any meal.  It is getting scary for me.  I guess being anxious anyway does not help.  I am currently taking prilosec every morning, but this is not the way that I want to live for the rest of my life.  Anyone else feeling this way?  My doctor has also now diagnosed me with asthma so this is not helping either.
Anyone else have all my symptoms?  What are you doing to control and to just what feels like, get by day to day.
I look forward to anyones posts.

I feel your pain... I was the same. I was on Nexium, prilosec, zantac, etc for almost 2 yrs. I had all kinds of side effects plus they all affected my liver. This is what has helped me so far:
-I quit taking the PPIs, they made me feel worse.
-I use DGL licorice(chewable) before each meal.
-I use a drink called Acid Gone once or twice a day.
-Sometimes I drink aloe vera juice.
-I don't eat late at night. No carbonated drinks or caffeine.
-Watching what I eat and praying a lot!
I was actually contemplating getting the surgery....but not anymore. Thank God I've been able to stay off my meds for sometime. Some people have withdrawal symptoms when you quit, always ask for your doctor's advice.
I hope this will help.....let me know if you have any questions.

have you asked your doctor for meds that help the stomach digest food quicker?
metaclopromide or reglan is available... or if you want to order a super med from overseas... domperidone.. it is not available in the states..

both meds work to help the stomach contract... which will help reduce the reflux.

also look into alternate ppi's if prilosec is not stopping the acid production. protonix worked best for me. trying nexium now and took prilosec otc for two years.

hope this helps.

Precious, can you give me more information on dgl licorice, the acid gone drink and aloe vera juice? Where do you purchase them? Are they safe?
I have been on protonix for about 4 weeks now. I am feeling better, but after I eat, I sometimes start feeling gas pains in my back, and sometimes pressure in my throat. It seems to clear up within an hour or so, which is an improvement from before I started taking the meds, but its still not entirely gone. I dont seem to get the acid regurgiation anymore. I just want to feel "normal" again. Sometimes, this is so depressing.
