I know it's pretty fatty, but if only taken at a 2 tablespoon serving it's a valuable tool in helping me gain weight (im terribly underweight and need as many calories as I can get. If I don't have any other fats in a meal (Peanut butter sandwich on potato bread), am I still likely to do harm?

It's an acid food if you look at ALKALINE diet. From my research, almonds are not acidic.
I know it's hard for us to start thinking of ACIDIC/ALKALINE when we think of foods. But with GERD, that is exactly what one must start thinking of. Apparently there are people who are on these drugs for years. The only way they are helping themselves is with drugs and maybe avoiding a few things.
To HEAL YOUR ESOPHAGUS, you have to use supplements to help heal it (DGL licorice, marshmallow root, aloe vera, slippery elm lozenges) and eat LOW-ACID food. Charcoal capsules absorb extra acid in stomach (don't take at the same time as any vitamin supplement though). Take a multiple vitamin and calcium every day. I already posted that I take TwinLab CALCIUM CITRATE WITH MAGNESIUM, not only absorbs extra acid but helps bone density (easily digested and absorbed, best form of calcium to take for bones), it does NOT CONSTIPATE. If you take TUMS for example, they contain CALCIUM CARBONATE and that does constipate.
Just google ALKALINE DIET to get alot of information. I posted in Sept. if you look back.

Does an Alkaline diet heal the throat. That is my problem.

Your throat is sore from acid coming all the way up into the esophagus. Alkaline is a strict diet but eventually you will be definitely helped.
I am off drugs completely and helping myself with DGL licorice before meals. I am on pretty strict alkaline diet though.

When you research Alkaline foods, remember that you are eating foods with the lowest acidity for GERD. Alot of alkaline foods are not good for GERD, they have too much acid. For example, LEMONS - very acid but you will always find them as highly ALKALINE on lists. They are not to be used by people with GERD, but after you are healed, they are great in salad dressing with a little olive oil because when lemon reaches your stomach it has an alkalinizing effect.
