Hey everyone, I'm Anelisa and I'm new.
So maybe 3 or 4 years ago I got my first ulcer from H.pylori. I had to take the prev pack and then was fine. A year later I got another from the same bacteria. My doctor found this weird since your immune system is suposed to build up an immunity and fight it off the second time. This time she put me on a 3 day long treatment of many different antibiotics and other weird pills that I don't remember. Again it went away, but I've been having problems on and off ever since. about every 6 months my stomach starts "acting up" again. This would include SHARP cramp pains after I eat and sometimes throughout the day, I sometimes burp up stomach acid and food, and have gas and other related problems. I went to the doc the first time it happened but she said it wasn't an ulcer, and I just needed to take anti acids and such.
So, my question is, What is going on? Is this harmful? It usually lasts 2 to 3 weeks so not too long, and only every 6 months at the very most. Is there something I can do to prevent it? Is there something that will help it when it happens? Does it sound like GERD?
Thank you for any help you can give!

Hi Anelisa,
Some individuals have proclaimed problems with daily heartburn symptoms, possible GERD after experiencing H Pylori. I on the other end, was dx w/GERD, approx 2000, but had bouts with heartburn for many, many yrs...

I began having alot of what appeared reflux problems in spite of meds about a yr ago. An endoscopy was done and I was dx w/H pylori and given antibiotics like you. At this time, doc was not even able to tell me if I truly had GERD because of the scar tissue attributed from med intake over the yrs. Doc indicated if reflux symptoms re-appear, just treat it like GERD and continue to take meds. Well, I got better iniitally afterwards, but some daily symptoms started to persist once again.

I now take 40mg of prolisec @ d, which provides a lot of relief, but I still need to watch everything I eat & drink.

So, sometimes docs are actually clueless with these GI problems. I'm not sure if there's anything you can do to avoid H Pylori, but, you could do some things to diminish symptoms of reflux;food intake, exercise, & water intake are healthful for some. Get a referral if needed for GI doc and ask questions and express your concerns.

Hope you get some answers soon.
