What could this mean in terms of possible cures?

Hi Kevin,

I had you a long page written out and hit the wrong key and it dissappeard.

The taste you are explaining could possibly be blood due to an ulcer.

I have had to have 2 stomach surgeries due to GERD and acid reflux.

Are you waking up straggling in your sleep?

Thats the way I was doing and the taste was so bitter and awful I could smell it the next day.
After 2 stomach surgeries, they have almost killed me, they as in doctors. They got my stomach so tight I lost from 153 to 103. I have gained back up to 110lb thank God. If I can answer any questions for you, please reply back. When it comes to bad stomachs and bad heart burn, I have been through it all.

I hope you feel better,
Rose

I have had the taste in my mouth for over a year now. When it first appeared it was really horrible. The only time I didn't taste it was when I ate a meal. But, then it would come back right after.  I have changed my diet drastically. I maintain a low fat or fat free diet. Now, the taste is located in the back of my mouth and seems to burn my tongue.  I have complained to the doctors and I have been on all of the medications, over the counter and prescription. I still have this almost daily. There are better days recently, not too many of them. I started taking gaviscon and that's when I started to feel some relief. I do have some stress in my life, being unemployed is one. When I obtain a full time job, that will be the test. I can only suggest to you that you maintain a low-fat or fat free diet and try gaviscon. I wish I can tell you more than that. It effects my sleep as well. When I lay down or turn to the side it becomes worse.  If you find a solutions to this problem, please inform me.

Good Luck

Melinda

Rose,

Wow.   Thanks for the reply.  I had no idea it could be an ulcer.  I do not have any other ulcer symtoms or stomach symtoms. I could eat a large peperroni pizza right now and my stomach would be fine.  Is there any way besides surgery that I can cure this?   I am taking Carafate now along with Nexium. Shouldn't the ulcer go away with the Carafate. Maybe it will go away. What does "straggling in your sleep" mean?

Melinda,
I read some of your other posts.  I have the same syptoms as you. For some reason, I get the bad taste when I have not eaten.  I get the funny fealing in my throat in the morning, afternoon, and night before eating.  Did you take Nexium 2x a day (80 MG)?

I have tried Nexium and all the others. The only one that gives me some relief is gaviscon, try it, I started with the tablets and then switched over to the liquid. I had to purchase the liquid from Drugstore.com. Couldn't find it anywhere.  I get the bad taste if I have not eaten for a few hours, I get it first thing in the morning when I wake up.  I get it at nite when I'm ready to lay down and go to sleep and sometimes I'll have it all day. It's so irrating. I'm so anti-doctor these days. They all gave up on me. Told me I should be on anti-depressants. I'm not going there. Those things have all sorts of side effects.  I'm going to purchase DLG Licorice Tablets today. Do u have any suggestions?

Do you have LPR or just reflux?

Things I have heard might work, but have not had any success myself. It might be worth trying.

Manuka Honey (1 teaspoon  4x a day)

BioK - which is a pobiotic

I just started Carafate.  My doctor prescribed it.

I have the bad taste evrytime I get acidic. In fact I never get heartburn pain, I've had gerd for 4 years and never felt pain.

One symptom of gerd is regurgitation and REFLUX of acid back in your mouth.

What are you taking to resolve the bad acidic taste in the back of your mouth? I am hearing about so many different things like, dgl licorce, or manuka honey or magnesium. It's confusing - I don't know which one to take.

I get that bad taste, too. It comes and goes, but seems worse when I'm hungry or if I've eaten the wrong thing. I find I mainly get it when I'm not getting enough to eat, which happens when everything makes me feel sick and I'm down to sipping soup all day long. My doc has me checking my urine pH every day. And I notice the more acidic my urine is, the worse my stomach is. I went to a health food store and bought a supplement that's supposed to normalize your pH. It worked and I was feeling better, but then I stopped using it because I was feeling better. I think I'll give it another go and see if it improves things again. My doc said an acidic body, is an unhealthy body. Makes sense I guess.

The one I'm using is called "pH-balance" and the company name is Pascoe. They're in tablet form and the bottle has 120 tablets in it. It's supposed to be a professional product, so I don't know how/why the health food store had them, but they seem to work. One of the homeopathic remedies is supposed to normalize your pH, too, but I don't remember which one. I used it about 12 years ago when it was recommended by a Naturopathic Doctor. Wish I could remember the name as it would be easier to use right now with the stomach acting up. Just pop them under the tongue and let them dissolve. I just got back on the pH tablets, but will update once my pH changes for the better.

Thank you very much. I have already begun researching this on the internet. I actually bought the ph strips a long time ago and when I took the test it was normal. Today, it wasn't. I am now going to  buy the tablets and also a book on regulating your ph balance through diet. I have been to the doctors and tried all meds and nothing ever worked for me. This is my next step. I'm determined to beat this thing. It really does take over my life on a daily basis. I'm always hungry, never feel right and so tired of feeling this way. It's been over a year and no results.

Again, thanks. hope it works.

You're welcome. I hope it works for you, too. I hope it works for me again, too. You're right...this takes over our lives, and I rarely feel right either. But like you I'm determined to beat this thing for once and for all. I've even been seeing a Doctor of Traditional Medicine for acupuncture and even tho it's taking a while, the results are beginning to manifest. I do feel different somehow...less anxiety over the whole thing? I'm not sure, but something is changing, and for the better. Good luck to you.
