Hi, When I first started having heartburn about three years ago, the burning was located in my stomach at the bottom of my ribs. It went on for months and then the burning subsided for awhile. It would flare up occasionally depending on my diet or if I drank alot of caffeine products. I thought that it was an ulcer and took alot of Pepcid. So after two years of this, I see a GI and have the scope and low and behold he doesn't find anything wrong but he says that I probably have acid reflux although I never felt anything in my esophagus.
It was probably a week later that I began having acid reflux with acid coming up into my throat with burning in chest and throat. Now I have this reflux almost everyday.
So beware, if you have burning, it means something and could be a precursor to acid reflux later. My advice is to change your diet right now. Go on an alkaline diet (low acid producing foods) and give up coffee, tea and sodas alcohol. Nip this in the bud before it really produces reflux and see if your symptoms disappear.
Good luck and sorry to hear that you have this going on...it's the pits.
