I have been diagnosed with IBD, but the doc isnt sure if its Crohns or UC. Anyhow.. when I started having problems with my bowels, I also had what I thought was heartburn. I was put on Nexium, and I felt good until about 1 1/2 month later. I had a slight burning sensation in my throat and burning sensation between my ribs. After about 2 months the doctor took me off the nexium, since I was schedueled for that real fun tube test :)
Well... they found nothing wrong in my stomach or in my small intestine, but I still have the burning feeling between my ribs.

I can't see any pattern either. It starts after getting out of bed and moving around in the morning. It doesnt matter if I eat or drink. It goes away for short periods during the day and comes back at night time. It does not disturb my sleep at night.

Oh.. I am hungry ALOT,  I have a coated tounge (not fungus) in the morning and I do experience bad breath.

Any ideas?

Hi,   When I first started having heartburn about three years ago, the burning was located in my stomach  at the bottom of my ribs.  It went on for months and then  the burning subsided for awhile. It would flare up occasionally depending on my diet or if I drank alot of caffeine products.  I thought that it was an ulcer and took alot of Pepcid.  So after two years of this, I see a GI and have the scope and low and behold he doesn't find anything wrong but he says that I probably have acid reflux although I never felt anything in my esophagus.

It was probably a week later that I began having acid reflux with acid coming up into my throat with burning in chest and throat.  Now I have this reflux almost everyday.

So beware, if you have burning, it means something and could be a precursor to acid reflux later.  My advice is to change your diet right now.  Go on an alkaline diet (low acid producing foods) and give up coffee, tea and sodas alcohol.  Nip this in the bud before it really produces reflux and see if your symptoms disappear.

Good luck and sorry to hear that you have this going on...it's the pits.

It's me again.  I forgot to tell you that you will see a coated tongue if acid is coming up into your throat and have a bad taste in your mouth which can lead to bad breath.

My tounge is white. After I get up and rinse my mouth with mouthwash and/or brush my teeth, it looks better for a while. I also have teethmarks on each side of the tounge. Don't know if that is because its swollen or what it means.
