I am just a big old scaredycat.  I have the bravo scope coming up next tuesday.  I have mulled over the whole mess and really worried about it.  This is my third scope and I am scared that it will be painful.  Please pray for me or send good vibrations.  I want to be full of courage.

Joan....I will certainly pray for you. I understand your fears because I haven't had my GERD that long and the whole thing scares me alot. I had one scope last month and it wasn't painful because I was asleep, so I don't know about a bravo scope.

I keep praying everyday that I will wake up and I will be healed of this thing. I know many people on this site say they cured themselves but I've tried all of it and nothing seems to work. How long have you had GERD and what meds are you taking? Do the meds work for you?

Sillylilly,  when you say that you've "tried everything listed on this site",  how long did you give it when trying something new?  Honestly, I have bought so much stuff, tried it once and given up because I thought it exacerbated the problems.  For example, I have a package of that orange peel stuff (that I would send to anyone who wanted it) that seemed to make my indigestion worse.  The pharmacological meds don't work for me either.  And I still don't know if I have too much acid or not enough....

Lonibel,

I basically cured myself (if you see my postings in Sept. I describe how I got GERD).  I also bought everything that I read about on this site and others to try.  I figured something had to work!

I found that an alkaline diet (check back on my postings) and DGL licorice were really what did it.  I had been on Prilosec for 1 month and then had a rebound effect toward the end, my md put me on Zantac.  That didn't work and I knew then I had to take drastic steps naturally.  Apparently DGL has the same effect as Zantac!!!  It does not cause high blood pressure, the offending part of licorice is taken out.

I had a very restricted diet for about 1 1/2 months, very alkaline but with enough protein and vitamins to stay healthy.

I had a cruise planned for the Greek Islands and I just returned from it (obviously I didn't eat like most people do on cruises, I was pretty careful sticking to my alkaline diet).   I was worried that I just wouldn't make it for a long time but the DGL did it for me.  You should try it.  The only warning that I saw on the Puritan Pride brand was that it should not be used if you have kidney or liver disease.

Hope this helps you.

Hi
This may sound silly...I started having severe sore throat off and on starting in March. Also had weird sensations when swallowing. Had bloating, feeling that the esophageal sphincter doesn't work properly when swallowing. The doctor prescribed Aciphex and sent me to see an ENT and Gastro. Scopes were done with nothing found except for an H pylori infection.

ENT indicated from the exam that I have TMJ. I didn't believe it because my dentist had never said anything about wear patterns from grinding. However, I did go back to my dentist and he indicated my TMJ was not functioning properly...but that my sore throat could not possibly be due to TMJ. I've since gotten myself a mouth guard/splint. I also apply heat to my joint every evening. My sore throat and swallowing issues have gone! Odd...but I'm just happy things are ok again. Just sayin...sore throats could be due to TMJ.

hi...thanks for that input...that is very interesting.  I know I grind my teeth at night because my husband told me many times about that.  Once this bravo thing is over I might look into this especially if they don't find anything.  Could you tell me what a mouthguard/splint is?  Also what you do mean you apply heat to the joint every evening?  Do you mean the jaw or the throat and how do you do this?  Thanks for the information! I appreciate your help.
