I have the silent kind of GERD - the kind that prevents you from swallowing your food but doesnt cause any out of the ordinary pain. For the past 6 months or so i have been getting minor to moderate chest pressure, kind of a filling sensation in the center and lots of heart palps and sort of strikes in attack form. Have been to the hospital multiple times with every test known to man performed on my heart, multiple times and have always come home feeling ashamed with the diagnosis of anxiety! The Chicken (pain) definately comes before the egg (anxiety). I was wondering if this is a common sensation with GERD, or whether it is some undiagnosable until too late heart condition. And i do apologize for sounding a little paranoid, im just tired of being told im crazy.

You are experiencing GERD. Like you I had the exact same symptoms especially the food swallowing it felt like it was sliding down the back of my throat. I thought for sure I had the big "C" and put off going to the doctor because of it. I finally had the scope done in October and they found absolutely nothing. I am still in disbelief from it.

I suffered from an eating disorder for many years and was sure what I was feeling was a result of the long time abuse I did to my body. The doc had me on Nexium and it works wonders and I am scared they will not renew the perscription for it because they could not find anything wrong with me.

I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens when I call in for a refill.

My aunt was hospitalized with also tons of testing for possible heart problems and it turned out to be GERD.

My symptoms instead were severe dizziness and nausea, nothing else! And, it turned out to be GERD. I also had a feeling of tightness when I had my bra on even though it was a comfortable fit (just kept it off when I was home) but never pain in the esophagus.

Try the alkaline diet with DGL supplements, see my postings.

Get well soon.

A few years ago, I had symptoms of GERD but they couldln't find anything wrong after several tests.  They continued to give me Prilosec as long as I wanted it.  It didn't help me because I really didn't have GERD but they continued to give me the meds anyway just to appease me. I finally went off them.

Well, it's been 5 years now and now I have been diagnosed with GERD and the meds really help because I do have it but I'm scared to stay on them for too long.

Feeling like you can't swallow is a symptom of GERD but it can also be a symptom of other things I'm sure.  I wouldn't want to say for sure that's what it is.  Usually, if you have a scope test, it will detect GERD if you have it especially if you've been having symptoms for a while.  Like I told Skooby, I was told I had GERD and even had symptoms but I had several tests and none of them indicated GERD, so I went off the meds.  It turned out that it was a reaction to hormone replacement therapy, so go figure.
If you think that it could be GERD, you need to see a GI doctor and have a scope test done to determine GERD.  Good luck, I know how you'll find lots of support on this site.

Thanks for your responses. I know for a fact i have Gerd, i have had multiple operations in the past 5 years to expand my esaphogus to prevent food from getting trapped. I was just wondering about the chest pressure because i rarely get heartburn.
