A few years ago, I had symptoms of GERD but they couldln't find anything wrong after several tests. They continued to give me Prilosec as long as I wanted it. It didn't help me because I really didn't have GERD but they continued to give me the meds anyway just to appease me. I finally went off them.
Well, it's been 5 years now and now I have been diagnosed with GERD and the meds really help because I do have it but I'm scared to stay on them for too long.
Feeling like you can't swallow is a symptom of GERD but it can also be a symptom of other things I'm sure. I wouldn't want to say for sure that's what it is. Usually, if you have a scope test, it will detect GERD if you have it especially if you've been having symptoms for a while. Like I told Skooby, I was told I had GERD and even had symptoms but I had several tests and none of them indicated GERD, so I went off the meds. It turned out that it was a reaction to hormone replacement therapy, so go figure.
If you think that it could be GERD, you need to see a GI doctor and have a scope test done to determine GERD. Good luck, I know how you feel...you'll find lots of support on this site.
