Has anyone ever felt like they have a tumor or something in their throat?  It hurts really bad and when, almost like a cold coming on and you want to cough.  Feels like lump and hurts thru to back.  Is this a symptom?  I have acid reflux a lot lately and burp constantly.  Sternum and shoulder pain and scared..Thanks for your continuing support..

Yes, alot of us who have GERD have the lump or pressure in our throat.  Not sure why it happens.

The PPI meds make mine much better.

I used to get the lump feeling alot.  I dont know what it is, gas or pressure maybe???....i still get it sometimes but not as much since on the meds.  I also get get pain around my collar bone and neck area sometimes.  I do not know what this is from.  I wonder if it could be from all the straining from burping.  Anyone else experience this?

Both my MD and TCM have suggested that part of the throat thing is definitely stress related. It gets to the point where you expect/dread it happening, and that in itself can cause it to happen. My reflux symptoms are 95% (or more) better now, but I've noticed when my mind has wandered to what if I try eating this...will it come back...my throat begins to tighten and feels gaggy and lumpy momentarily. So we can trigger it to some degree with stress. If I think I feel that coming on, I do something to totally distract myself with...and it works. Drinking warm water in the past has helped relieve it as well.

Holy crap! I have this sore shoulder/ throat/stiff neck pain worse when the lump in my throat is aggravated or inflamed(?)---nearly nothing now. I'm happy to hear that others have had this to--my doc just sorta looked at me at first (I don't mean happy that other are suffering tho--you know what I mean).
I have been treated for reflux--losec once then twice a day and domperidone given by my family doc --the domperidone REALLY helped with the lump feeling. I have been seeing a gastroenterologist and he has revised my meds to be pantoloc 40mg 2X/day and that seems to do the trick. I've been scoped with no changes to my gut but the lump thing persists but is not a reall problem unless I eat something like dry toast that rubs up against it and scratches it's way by. I continue to have the sore shoulder (like having been hit by a tennis ball to the left of my left shoulder blade) when this lump is also sore, usually if I fall off my meds schedule like when I have the flu but when I get back on track the soreness gradually gets better. If I have learned anything from this really bad last two years of reflux is that it takes alot of time for these parts to heal after you get on meds--my gastro guy mentionned 12 weeks for the lump (globus) but mine never went away it sorta lays dormant so now I will be tested for LPR which thanks to an article I read on HealingWell I was able to be better informed when talking to my gastro guy. Check out the LPR symptoms and see if that maybe fits your symptoms, I was impressed how it fit me to a T after years of frustration that I didn't seem to me to match regular reflux symptoms and that lump thing is right up there with symptoms.

When I put my foot in my mouth I hope someone will tell me before I wiggle my toes.

So are you saying that the lump in your throat got better under the medication you were on?  Because the lump in the throat that I have is so troublesome!  I don't take your medications.  If yours really work (like domoperidone), then I want to ask to be put on them pronto!

When I was having the pain and discomfort with the lump in my throat the domperidone really helped along with the losec. But at this point in time, two years later and not taking domperidone anymore,the lump feeling is still there but does not feel aggravated but is still there. I can still feel it when I eat dry toast or turn my head a particular way (like the joke says"don't do that anymore) and if one of my kids hits me in the throat. What I am saying is at the time I credit it with making it better right now I figure keeping my acid down is keeping it tolerable and most times it feels like it's not there. Ask the doc about it--I don't think it could really hurt. I took 2 little pills 4 times a day-before meals and at bedtime. Good luck. I hope it will make a difference for you!

Hi, Patty.  Thanks.  you took 2 domperiodone 4 times a day?  How many mg?  I just read that it's a canadian form of prevacid. But I'm already taking prevacid (twice a day) and it's not doing anything.  Maybe I should be taking more dosages like you??  How often did you take the losec?
Sorry about all the questions, if this is going to help me, it's important.  I am tired of having my symptoms.  Thanks! Happy holidays, friendlygal

I can relate desperation you must feel to get this thing resolved if not get it under control.

Domperidone is not Prevacid:
Brand == Pharma name
Prevacid==Lansoprazole
Motilium==Domperidome

Domeperidone comes in 10mg pills so I took 2, four times a day. Losec- I took 2 20mg twice a day, 1 in the am / 1 in the pm.
Initially I was on 1/ day losec when that stopped working then was put on Prevacid 15mg but that did nothing and the fumes and burning came back big time--I continued taking domperidone during these changes. My doc switched me back to Losec twice a day and domperidone as mentionned above and got better and stabilized. But when I got to the gastro doc he swithched me again to Pantoloc (pantoprazole EC) 2x/day and stopped the domperidone.
The constant in all this is the domperidone when taken with Losec and I always seemed to stabilize faster with the domperidone.
I hope this is not too confusing but needed to at least tell you I have been on other meds to various degrees of success.
Hope I can help.
Happy holidays.
Patty

Patty B., thanks for clearing that up.  I must've misread something.

I wish I had a GI doc who was taking care of me and giving me all this advice about meds that you are getting!!  I went to a creap, now I'm in the process of getting a new one.

I think I'll mention your meds to my new GI and see what he/she says.

Just out of curiosity, are you living in the US?  Because your meds seem to be different than others I hear about...

I am in Canada.
I didn't know that domperidone had a brand name either until I looked it up on the internet eyes
I think its called plaine old domperidone around here to--must be the British name.
Hope your new pro works for you.
Have a safe and happy holiday.
