I'll try not to make this too long....But here is my story...Im hoping that someone here can give me some advice or answers to a similar problem...I have been diagnosed with Acid Refulx about 6 months ago....Even taking the Nexium that has been prescribed, I notice that some times it flares up.  I am confused and wondering if anyone here has had problems with gas and does that go along with the acid reflux?  I have recently...(last week actually) had that test done where they run the scope down your throat into the stomach...(unsure of the exact name of the test).  My doctor said that everything looked fine...No hernias, or Ulcers or anything.  He told my mother while I was in recovery that the only thing he can see is acid reflux, and he says that he thinks my biggest problem is stress.  I do tend to worry alot, and I seem to be a bit of a hypochondriac as well.  I have noticed lately that my right side has a dull ache...I wouldnt call it a pain...and he pressed my stomach and there was no pain when he did so...I have another appointment in a week or so, but I worry because I GOOGLE everything and I have read about appendicitis (sp?)  Does anyone here have problems with gas?  I know that my primary doctore has put me on nexium and I take ativan for my nerves at night.  I notice that when I take the ativan, my stomach troubles are much less.....so, this is what makes me think Im a hypochondriac...But I don't want to ignore something if It could be an issue....Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I am sorry your feeling so badly.  If you feel your having pain other then the acid reflux, you may need to get checked for it.  Sometimes we feel we are emotional dealing with pain and feeling sick.   I know people/doctors have made me feel like a hyperchondriac, but I am not.  There might be something else going on with you.  One thing that may help is to do deep breathing excerisizes to help you relax.  Try finding things that may help you relax to see if the right sided pain eases.  Do you have other symptoms? You didn't mention other ones except for the right sided pain.

My reflux is worse when I am stressed and anxious. Deep breathing seems to help somewhat. Perhaps just realizing that you are stressed or anxious - and that is causing some of your symptoms - will help?!?

Maybe keeping a symptom journal - when you feel what and when it goes away and what is happening around that time - will help. It also is beneficial because then when you go to the doc you can say - on this day at this time this happened. My memory fails me often when I'm in the doctor's office and having stuff written down helps a lot!

curious78,

Were you born in 1978? If you were, you're my age. You kind of sound like me. I never had heart burn but around a few months ago I was diagnosed with acid reflux, specifically LPR. I had the symtoms of it starting 5 months ago. Thinking back it occured at a time of high stress. I think it is stress, stress about past things, and anxiety. SOme of these feeling may be repressed or unconcious that you may not even know what they are. I had that feeling in my appendcitis too and looked it up, haha. But the the feeling went away. Is the pain like really sharp, is it really peainful, if not don't worry about it for a few days. You should def know if something is wrong. I'm telling you the mind can play tricks with you. For the a while I was a hypochondriac, I spent hours on google matching my symptoms with diseases (which caused more stress). I was such a hyponchandriac that I looked up hypochondriac on google. I think being bored is a high stressor too. I really believed my mind was trying to distract me from something. . Check out rivverotter post and maybe WDC's and mine. I been taking prilosec too, going to get off it cause it's not helping that much and I got to take care of the root of the problem. Anyways, good luck. I'm glad to hear doctors out there saying stress could be the issue. Peace and good luck.

Did you gas start at the time you started taking prilosec? If you did, its the prilosec. I started having a little gas too after taking it.

I would not worry if I were you. If you were having trouble with your appendix you would know. The pain is usually unbearable. You can get gas with the reflux. I could be that you even have a touch of IBS. Reflux usually comes along with that as well.

Get well soon!

*hugs*
Hospitalized with Infectious Colitis.
Colonscopy showed ulcers.Diagnose changed to either UC or Crohn's
Whatever it is, I was told its mild...
Medication Asacol 1x3
Never had a good follow up - no small bowel test at all.
Gastroscopy was normal, but Still have a burning feeling in my stomach.
Looking for a doctor in Oslo who knows what he's doing atm.

I totally appreciate the replies. I am seriously thinking alot of it is stress related. I will get my results from the biopsy of my stomach lining soon. The pain in my side is not really pain....More like something i just feel every now and again. To comment to MOB1123, Yes we are the same age...I know that I make things worse because I read up on everything....That right there is half of my problem...I read TOO much...HA..I think me being so worried stems from my father dying when I was about 10. My brother and I both have this mental deal with death, and we are always scared of being ill. I think its more of the Psychological thing implanted in our heads....I do however, suffer badly from Acid refulx. That in itself is horrid. Nexium works, although, I still have problems.

I think Im going to cut out on the Googling every pain I get, and try not to think about it as much...Thanks a TON for the replies!

Curious, I wonder how much of the pain you're experiencing is just from gas moving around in your gut? Also, I've noticed since I've lost 15 pounds thanks to Leaky Gut Sydrome with Acid Reflux, I feel alot of tenderness around my ribs, side and back. That happened to me years ago when I was going through something very stressful and lost alot of weight...everything hurt from the lack of fat padding. Once I started regaining weight the pains went away. I know that's my problem right now. The pain isn't inside...it's where I can touch on the outside. I find it's less bothersome when I'm standing or moving around. But as soon as I sit down the tenderness comes back. Just a thought.

Btw...I'm terrified of being ill, also. My Mom went through hell with a kidney condition before she died and I'm now petrified of having to deal with MD's. So no doubt those anxieties have alot to do with our current stress levels. Make sure you're exercising daily...it really is nature's morphine. It does help alot.

You mentioned about your father passing away. I am sorry to hear that. Maybe that's a place where you can start dealing with some repressed emotion. Maybe just explore, reexperience, if there's any anger feel it, and than just release and let go. Maybe there's other hidden anxieties you may want to address too.
