Sometimes I feel like I am going to die.  I have been to the cardiologist just to make sure that my heart is okay and it is.  I have chest pain and pressure, a pain in my neck and my arm...sometimes my left arm sometimes my right.  I get pain in my jaw and also my back.  I do have the acid taste in my mouth and burning in my chest and throat.  I also burp all of the time, sometimes so loud it is crazy.  I am trying to get off of the PPIs and I am working on managing my stress and anxiety, but I guess I am not doing such a great job.  I know that the stress and anxiety totally contribute to my problems.  Anyway it just gets really scary for me.  Does anyone know how I feel, are you doing anything special to manage your symptoms?  I could sure use the help.  I am willing to try almost anything.  I am 44 years old and feel like I have struggled with my stomach for most of my life. Anyway..thanks for helping!

Hi TT,
I am sorry that you are having such a difficult time. You mentioned that you had been to a cardiologist and all is fine, but have you been to a gastro doc? You also mentioned you are trying to get off the PPI's... I was wondering if they had been helping at all or not. In my case, my GERD was under control for a long time, but recently has gotten really bad again. I can relate with most of the symptoms you mentioned. I also suffer from anxiety disorder. (We have a great anxiety forum here too... you should drop by there!) I just wanted you to know that you are not alone with this. Right now I'm not having much luck managing my symptoms, and I'm on 3 different meds.

Tangerine Bear..thank you for the reply...I do think that stress and anxiety are the biggest contributors to my GERD.  I have been to many doctors and the Gastro is next (i have been to GI docs in the past, I have struggled with my stomach since I was 15).  My regular doctor is the one that put me on the Zantac and Nexium.  They did work okay, but I just don't want to be on them for the rest of my life.  I did purchase the DGL today, I am going to see if that helps me at all.  I also need to control the stress in my life, (New Years resolution #3) but it sure isn't easy with 2 small children, a full time job, a husband that is never home and all the fixins that come with that.  But I have to do it!  Anyway, thank you again and let's make 2007 a year to get the GERD out of lives!
