Now it's time for yet another weekend and my young friends are going to enjoy themselves while I stay at home.  My lump in my throat is waaaay out of control.  I was wondering if anyone has tried prevacid three times a day or so.  I have been thinking of upping my medication from 2 times a day to three...

Hi Friendly,

I know you've been having trouble with constipation like I have. I think that if you try to get the constipation under control, then the meds will work better. I've tried every kind of relief for cp and the thing that really helped me was probiotics (acidoplius), lots of fiber (metamucil or benefiber) and maybe taking one senna tablet along with all of this...I use the natural Swiss Kriss from the health store. See if this combo works for you. When I started on Prevacid, it caused even more cp and none of that worked for me anymore but that doesn't mean it won't work for you. The doc finally put me on Zelnorm for my constipation and my Prevacid works much better now.

One other thing that you could try is Zantac otc, which works differently than the PPI's. It's OK to take Prevacid and Zantac together. They shut down acid differently. Taken together they seem to work very well.
If you don't find relief, I don't think more medicine is the answer...talk to your doc about why it's not working.

Are you both drinking enough water and eating COOKED vegetables such as spinach, swiss chard, kale etc.

Try to see if there's something you eat that causes the constipation.

Take BENEFIBER 3 times a day. With Meamucil you have to drink alot of water or it can cause constipation, Benefiber is better.

Yesterday and today I finally had BM and it was because I went back to eating bread.

How do you get your docs to listen to you about this?
I have had 5 BM's in the month of January. I'm talking about a couple of hard marbles each time. I have been going through this for a few years now. Finally I got to the point I don't even bring it up anymore. I have taken everything that is out there. I take alot of meds besides I have IBS with constipation. The only thing I drink is water, nothing else and plenty of it. To me it also feels like nothing is functioning. I asked my doc about a year ago to put me on Zelnorm and he wouldn't, he just tells me that I'm constipated and to eat more fiber and drink more water. (Duh) And I have seen him and other docs reguarding this problem many times. I Finally used an enema (which I do use and doesn't usually work), and had alot come out Wed., but I am still bloated. I never have an urge to go. And then having alot of heart issues going on it's not easy to push. Tomorrow I'm going to urgent care and demand that they give me something. I shouldn't have to suffer as I have been. My mother was 45 and passed away due to perforation to the colon. The whole large intestine was gangrene and the small intestine 75% the same. I am not going out that way.
Thanks for hearing me out,
Lori

Swanfelweast, sorry about everything you're going through.  I haven't gone BM since I last wrote that post.  To answer your question, it isn't something I addressed yet with doctors.  I have just thought to do so now...I'll have to see how that goes...good luck!!

Hi Swanfleweast,

I think you're right in going in and asking for something...I don't understand your doc because Zelnorm is the standard medication given for IBS with constipation...I would definately get a different doctor.

I totally understand what you're going through with chronic CP because I have experienced it also. I went to see my GI doc yesterday and he actually snickered at me when I told him some of my symptoms...I'm never going back to him again. He did put me on Zelnorm about three weeks ago and it has helped but I still have to take a Senna tablet with it...when we take a bunch of other meds that cause CP then the Zelnorm doesn't seem to work as well so I take the Senna tablet with it.

I really hope you can find a good doc and get some relief soon. Keep us posted.

Well I had to go today to follow up for reaction to a med from my cardiologist and I explained to her exactly what was going on..my husband was with me. She says well there are so many out there..I said NO you don't understand I have had this for many years and I have tried everything and with the problems I'm having with my heart the pressure from the inflammation and the stomach is not doing me good right now.. So my husband cuts in ( I told him he had to speak for me also because for some reason they look right through me) and says Dr. my wife has had this for so many years blah, blah, blah, blah. She pulls out her script pad and writes for me..Sorbitol Solution USP, it's a liquid I guess sold over the counter and some Gentle Stimulant Laxatives. Will see. I'll give it a try and see what happens. I told her I was going to ask my reg. P. for Zelnorm and she said it wasn't a good idea..she said they have to be careful of what I take because of the heart issues..

Friendlygal,
I know where you're coming from. I hope you get relief soon. I can't bare it any more myself. I'm going to try this and I pray that it works.
Thank you,
Lori

Have any of you tried Benefiber?  3 times a day - at least it's not a drug

I know someone that had your problem and she started eating kiwis and everything is solved.  Just a thought, I hate to hear all of you suffering like this.

Swanfle, I do understand your problems. I was constipated as well in the past two years. You know I don't know if you ever tried this but for me Apple Cider Vinegar really did wonders for by bowel movements. I know there's no way around sounding gross when talking about this but when I first took the ACV for my chest pains, I noticed I was "going" much more and the waste was not lumpy and small it was smooth and long. I had some long ones that I haven't seen since I was a child lol. That was early on when I first started to take it. I took 2 tablespoons and mixed it with about a half a glass of water three times a day (morning, noon and nighttime).

I was just talking to my brother about it last night and I got him on the ACV and I asked him about his bowel movements and he said it took a week or two but he said now he's going almost every day now and he said before the ACV he would go once every 6 or 7 days.

I say give it a try. It's all natural and there's no harm that can come from you by taking ACV. It's good for you and does the body good. I have taken it daily for two plus years now and I have no plans to stop. I also take DGL Licorice and it has almost healed my throat and voice in just 3 weeks. I am at 90% now. Good luck and again, give the ACV a shot and try to get off those drugs.

One other note: The pharmaceautical companies have done extremely well advertising their products on TV and you are a prime example of what they want to accomplish. You are now begging your doctor to go on Zelnorn. Mission accomplished if they get you on it. I imagine you would be on it for life once you take it. I do wish hope whatever you do that you will get relief soon.

I agree with RandyDandy, most of you are not giving certain methods ENOUGH TIME to work. You just expect immediate relief.

It took me one month to get over all the horrible GERD symptoms I had and the only reason I never went back to DRUGS is because I am a very stubborn person (Scorpio :)

Don't go from one drug to another, you will become a total DRUG ADDICT and never escape the circle.

If you have severe pain in the esophagus, make sure you dilute the Apple Cider Vinegar in even more water so that it's very diluted or it will keep burning as it goes down. The point of ACV is to increase alkalinity in the stomach.
It does nothing to heal the esophagus, you have to use DGL licorice (remember only the chewable works) to heal the esophagus.

Good luck everyone.

Another thought about constipation......

What causes your constipation????? Well, you should try to figure it out!!

Keep a food diary!!!!

Look up the drugs you are taking!!! Most likely they have something to do with it too.

Eat just vegetables and fruit and stop eating too much white anything such as pasta/bread/potatoes/cake/cookies/junk food. Eat chicken, fish for protein NOT red meat (it stays in your systems 24 hrs).

Don't eat junk food. If you keep a food diary you will eventually be able to figure it all out! SO DO IT, don't just go from doctor to doctor and ask for help. A doctor will just write out prescriptions, they don't have the time to sit and figure out your problems.

As a last resort, you you can't figure it out for yourself and if you can afford it or your insurance covers it, go see a NUTRITIONIST. That person will help you get REGULAR.

You are exactly right. I think I remember my mom taking the ACV. I'll give it a try. Anything but drugs. That's all they want to give you. I have tried the benefiber and so many other things. I have been battling this for so long. I have a detox machine but I haven't been able to really use it, due to my heart issues, but asap I'm going to give it a try and get rid of all this poison out of me.. Thanks for the advice I'll keep you posted.

No, the benefiber did not give me gas but just did not help the bowels move. Same with the Fiber sure.

I thought you were staying away from wheat. whole wheat is fine?
thanks for the kiwi tip. I think i'll have to soak the vegetables so that they are not dry. small carrots seem to be too hard on my digestion.
