Hello! To give you my long background - I have had continual struggles with heartburn and in the most recent years what I am assuming to be gastritis. I have been dealing with quite the bit of pain on and off. I did have a scope done and it suggested gastritis.
My pain tends to go in bouts - for a few months it flairs and then I get it under control for a few months and can even go off meds and then it flairs again (most likely diet - no pain - I guess you tend to splurge). I get terrible burping as well.
Anyway - long story short - I am tired of dealing with the pain and most recently I have tried Protonix and am now again on Aciphex. Did not seem to be doing much so after reading this forum I went low card (typically a huge carb eater - the more my tummy hurt - the more bread / bagels / pasta I would consume). So I cut out carbs and also started slippery elm and dgl about 5 days ago. I am still taking aciphex (going on 3 weeks now) but did cut out all tums, other antacids, mylanta, maylox, gaviscon, etc. I have been feeling really good since Friday. Monday I hurt a little - but a little extra slippery elm and I was feeling better (don't know how much it helped - but something worked).
My question is - has anyone had success with this method - low carbs, DGL and slippery elm.
I am so afaid the pain is going to attack again.
If you have had succcess is it because something is calming your system - or are things actually healing? have you been able to get your self to a point where you are healed or is it always a constant battle with pills (I would like to go off Aciphex totally - but I am too scared right now) and herbal stuff and diet watching.
Any insights on others experience would be greatly appreciated.
