Hi Sarah,
I'm quickly learning a lot about GERD and all the rest that goes with it as I was just diagnosed with Barrett's esphagus on Mon. Anyone who has had some heartburn can have some acid reflux (according to GERD.com), it's when the LES (sphincter) between the stomach and esophagus doesn't completely close that problems can occur. I've had that "spitting" thing happen to me in the past and since I was put on Prevacid it seemed to go away. Very annoying, isn't it? Are you currently taking any medications that were prescribed for you? Keep me posted. Teri : )

i am currently taking protonix.
see, i have crohns disease...and started having problems swallowing. i had an endoscopy done to make sure that there are no ulcers...they are no ulcers..in fact my g.i says my esophugus is in good condition.
then when i started to fell better ...i got an upper respiratory infection, bronchitus: and i am still getting over larangitus!! so since then it has come back!!
how well does hot ginger tea work for you??? or does it make a difference if it is caffeine free??? like decaf coffee???
thanks so much...maybe there is a small ray of hope now.

Sarah, sounds like you're already handling a lot, so am glad to hear that your esophagus is doing well! So if your Dr. is aware of this and has already checked you out for GERD and pronounced you in good shape, perhaps it's the medication that you're taking for the crohn's disease giving you some heartburn?, or different foods that may bother you? Ask him if there is something else (OTC) over the counter that you could take if needed for this. As far as tea is concerned, anything with caffeine in it can be the culprit of the heartburn, so watch out for that. If it's the URI giving you the most problems right now-guess you'll have to once again ask your Dr. for help there, if it's your throat, sometimes just salt water gargling can help that. Teri
