After telling my doctor (primary physician in NYC) about the success I had with DGL, along with other people I've told and some of you on this board, he added it to his "drug file".

I was thrilled tongue since he will definitely help alot of people and many of them will not be put thru the vicious cycle of drugs!

I am taking DGL now, one pill 20 minutes before each meal. I will post my feedback in a month or hopefully sooner.

Danie, can I eat any time after 20 minutes or I have to eat after 20 minutes for best results?

I think it's best if you eat about 20 minutes later (doesn't have to be extremely precise I guess). They must have figured (whoever came up with this life saving supplement) that it takes about 20 minutes to coat the esophagus and then maybe the saliva alone will undo the coating mechanism. I'm just making an educated guess here :)
Remember to drink after the meals and nothing carbonated. Water is best.

I would also suggest you take more than one each time. I found that 2 didn't even help me. I took 3 and that made the big difference for me.

Remember to take them at night too and don't drink anything afterwards since liquids will wash away the benefit of the coating.

Are there any side effects of DGL like blood pressure or head ache?

HB,
Have you not read all my postings on DGL????

DGL licorice has had the part that causes high blood pressure taken out of it.
That's why it's safe to take. Read back on my postings, there are many.

Thank you Danie, I ordered the same brand. First day I did not like that taste but not I am getting used to it. I just took two today before the lunch and I am feeling some headache now, is it caused by DGL?

HeartBurner, a big NO. DGL does not cause any headaches. There are no known side effects or drug interactions with the use of DGL.

I have been taking it for 5 plus weeks now and as James Brown used to say, "I feel good".

Kiwi,

You can get it in any health food store in the US.  If you are outside the US, probably an herbalist.  I got mine from Puritan Pride (not too expensive), you can check their website.

I would advise you to dissolve 2 tablets (I found I needed 3) in your mouth 20 minutes before eating anything and at bedtime.  Don't drink while you're eating, drink afterwards (water is best).  Since the DGL coats your throat and esophagus, you want to maintain the coating while eating.  They have to be dissolved with saliva.  Read the many postings on DGL on this site to understand more about it.

I've read some of your postings, which are very helpful.

I went to one health food shop here, but they don't have this DGL licorice, especially the cheweble one. Did you also have the symptom like tightness in your throat? I have acid reflux due to hiatus hernia, but a bit better now that I stop eating all fruits and chocolate, tomato, coffee and spicy foods. Lost weight too in the last 2 months. Been on Zantac, Nexium, Somax, Pariet, Losec, Pepcid but got reactions to all of them. Just been surviving on Mylanta but not everyday. Lately, I notice this tight throat feeling, usually after lunch until night. I want to try natural remedies. Hope this DGL works. I have to find one first.

If anyone has IBS, taking Aloe Vera with Manuka honey helps a lot.

Kiwi,
From all the research I did, DGL apparently works like Zantac and it's natural! Incredible!  You must have read that a few people on this board have been helped by it, especially myself and Randydandy.
I think you will be helped, just make sure you take a larger dosage.
DGL works well even for ulcers.  I had the knot feeling in my throat and horrible nausea and dizziness.
It all cleared up after watching my diet (alkaline only) and DGL usage.
Good luck.

I have been taking it for a few weeks now.  It seems to help somewhat.  I'm trying to increase it from one to two before a meal rather than after.  I have heard an hour before, but 20 min sounds good as well.  MY GERD/Heartburn/IBS situation seems to go up and down.  I'm good for a while and then it comes back.  I don't take meds.  I take Enzymes, Acidopholus (sp?), and Candide control etc.  It really helps, but there are moments it makes a comeback.  I am looking more towards a longtime cure, rather than a short time comfort.  DGL seems to be like Aloe Vera Jucie in that it helps heal damage to the esphogas and stomach.  I take Aloe Vera Juice at times as well.  I have had periods of almost next to no symptoms at all.  It's almost like it is all gone and then it comes back all of a sudden.  It's a trial and error process and what works for one may not work for all.

V,
I had to take 3 DGL 20 minutes before eating and at bedtime. Try to increase it, it might help you too. Good luck.

Has anyone tried refluxamine? Does it work? It contains licorice but I don't know if this is the DGL kind.

Kiwi,
DGL is a natural supplement. It's called DGL. Check back on all the postings to get alot of information on this.

It's dissolved in your mouth with saliva 20 minutes before eating anything. It coats your esophagus thus allowing food to pass thru without damaging it more and heals it.

Don't drink while you eat to keep the coating, that's how I sort of see it.
Drink at end of meal. Take at night before going to sleep.
Take 3-4 if needed at a time (1 or 2 may not work well).

Sleep only on your left side so acid from stomach doesn't come up into the esophagus.
