For the last couple of weeks when I wake up in the morning I sound hoarse. But the thing is that the hoarseness goes away especially after I get a drink of water.

Three weeks ago I had 3 tubes of blood taken and my tests results came back normal.

So I was wondering if GERD is what is causing my morning hoarseness.

Hi Mastricht.. Welcome to HW I am glad you found us. It could be Gerd or it could be laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR). I would go to Primary Care so he can point in the right direction if you need a specialist such as an ENT (as indersonu mentioned) or a GI..

I have been diagnosed with GERD and am usually hoarse in the morning and then later in the afternoon. I find that with the GERD, I have pretty thick mucous in my throat at times and that is really what causes the hoarseness. If you have not talked to your doc about the possibility of reflux, you might want to do so.

I suspect I may have GERD (although that's only my opinion as a hypochondriac!) and amongst other thigns I wake up very hoarse. I also have a tickly feeling like I need to cough occasionally and chest pains. Sounds like we may be in the same situation....
