I am new to this forum and am glad to have stumbled upon it.  I have been reading the different post and it is assuring to know I am not alone with this illness.  Here goes my story:  I was diagnosed with Gerd back in August (confirmed with an endoscopy).  I was on Protonix for about six months and the medicine was working very good, infact I could pretty much eat what ever I wanted.  Then in January was when it all changed for me.  I don't know but the medication stopped working and then I really got into serious trouble because the Gerd came back with a vengeance.  Since February I was on Prevacid for about two weeks but it didn't help and really upset my stomach.  Then the GI doctor switched me to Achiphex (which helped with the acid but I couldn't tolerate the headaches) and also took for about two weeks.  Right now I am on 80 mg. of Nexium a day.  I am having many respiratory problems because of the acid reflux.  My doctor said I more than likely aspirated acid in my lungs and now I am also on all kinds of medication for that too.  I take Advair, Singulair, and right now I just finished a 21 pack of Methylprednisone.  I have never in my life had any respiratory problems like asthma nor have I ever even been a smoker.  I had always been a healthy 43 year old female.  The respiratory problem was so bad I couldn't even do anything strenuous because I'd be short of breath.  I also developed some anxiety issues because of this problem (scary feeling like my lung would collapse and I would panic, or I would feel chest tightness and again panic).  I take the 0.25 mg. of Xanax to calm me incase I need it and try to use it when really needed.  The Methylprednisone has helped but I am still not 100%.  I am wondering if anyone out there has had respiratory problems because of Gerd?  Also, does the Nexium take this long to work because I have been on it for about 6 weeks and I am a little better because I told my GI doctor I didn't want to choke anymore but it is taking forever to get back on my feet.  I am doing everything I should like watching my diet, sleeping elevated, smaller meals, aleady lost 25 lbs., etc... I also had a CT scan of my lungs and it came out normal as did the pulmonary fuction study test.  I would appreciate some input because I am trying to make the best of this lousy situation.  I almost forgot to mention, I never had any stomach issues until I took Fosamax for osteopenia but the doctors don't think that is what caused my gerd because I only took it for 4 months.  Thanks, Porcelain Doll....
