Over the past two months I have been getting a sharp shooting pain on the left chest area. The pain is not localized to one spot, but jumps around under my left breast plate. I have had these pains every single day for two months. It hits randomly, when I am relaxing, working out , and even lying down. I had an echo done and everything came back okay. My doctor thinks I have GERD, and I have noticed I have been burping a little bit lately. He gave me medication, so if it goes away after a week then it must be GERD otherwise I am going to have more testing done. Does anyone know if GERD can cause left sided sharp shooting pains---several times a day for 2 months straight? I do not have heartburn or anything else......I am worried it is something more serious! sad

Hi,

I went through a period of a similar thing, although perhaps not quite as intense. It seems to have eased now, but strangely, the pain that used to be almost exclusiely on the left have now spread to the otherside. I rarely get heartburn with it, although I do get quite gassy. The main similarity is that my discomfort was pretty much constant for about a week.

I'm new to all this and by no means an expert, but I'd say if in doubt get it looked at however, I've heard plenty of other people talking about similar symptoms, often to the point they get sent to casualty (ER) and then it still turns out to be GERD.

For me, I saw a doctor who reassured me it was just acid reflux and then I was more or less happy (despite being a bit of a hypochondriac!!) I've since got back into cycling and put quite a lot of stress on my heart without any problems, so I have to conceed he was right.

Hope everything turns out OK.

Chris.

Chris, thanks for your reply. When you had pains were they like sharp shooting pains almost like a zapping feeling? I have no other associated symptom aside from little burps here any there. I just started taking the medication today, so I guess that is a start in determining if this is in fact GERD. Do you have other symptoms?

Thanks again for your response!

I've had same symptoms and ended up in the ER. They told me I was having Esophagial Spasms and put me on Aciphex. No more spasms, but still have other issues :-\

I had the same thing when my Gerd was really bad. Now the pain stays on the right side. I did not have heartburn at the time so I thought it was my heart.
