Joepiter,

Yes, I have heartburn everyday, just like you. My symptoms are similar to yours but some of them are different. I, too, have a hiatal hernia so it is likely I will be dealing with this for the rest of my life. Like you, the ppi's worked for me for awhile and then they were actually making my GERD worse so I stopped them completely. I now use mostly natural methods and take Tums or Gaviscon or a Pepcid every now and then but am doing better than I was on the ppi's. I've been dealing with it for about 5 months now so I am adapting and not as depressed about it as I was when it started.

Just know you are not alone. Most of the people on this board are dealing with their GERD every day.

I have be on nexium 40mg daily for 6 months now. I tried stopping the medication after 3 months and six months. After about 48 hours my stomach became painful and started growling again. I think it may be do to flonase ( a nasal corticosteriod) that I have been taking for at least 5 years during the Spring, Summer, and FAll. Corticosteroids can cause peptic ulcers. I have been off the flonase for several months now. I'm going to get a barium test to make sure it is not a peptic ulcer. I feel better when I eat, which usually means gastritis or peptic ulcer of the small intestine.
