Hello:  I have been reading about DGL and notice that many people are getting some relief from their GERD symptoms.  My question is this: Can you take the DGL while still taking the PPI Nexium?  I think I am going to give it a try.

I know someone who was taking Nexium for 10 years, he started using the DGL and after a couple of weeks went off the Nexium.  He still can't believe that the DGL is controlling his GERD symptoms and is now starting to taper back on the DGL.   You can experiment with yourself but you will be happy being off the drug.

Please see my previous post below -
what is DGL - Are there any side effects? Did u ever try carafate?

Hello - Me Again-
well the gastritis I have is totally depressing me. I was taking prilosec and pepcid which was great and made me feel like a new person and was able to live again until .. . i started breaking out in rashes and hives from it. so I had to stop taking it and now feel like i am so depressed and starting from square 1. I started w/ gastritis in sept. its been 7 months and is sucks. right now i am on carafate. which seems to sorta help but is so darn nasty and inconvenient. i totally get acid still here and there but its better than nothing at all. I guess I am gonna start prevacid or aciphex (since prilosec and pepcid is out b/c of the hives) I would like other peoples responses on medication that works best for them with the least side effects. anyone tried prevacid? I know I am healing b/c since sept I feel alot better but still not great. How long does this take to heal? PLEASE PLEASE RESPOND. Thank you.

Do a search of my postings....DANIE....you will get all the information on DGL etc and you can try and see if you can be helped  by trying DGL and other methods.

DGL is a natural supplement...the high blood pressure part of the licorice is removed therefore it should not interfere with blood pressure.  I got all my information on DGL from Dr. Weil's site (a US medical doctor, Harvard trained and well regarded) and that gave me the confidence that it was a good product to use.

I healed myself of GERD (caused by taking ADVIL at night and sleeping exclusively on my right side due to a left side injury).  I only had GERD for one month but it took me over a month to heal my esophagus.

The very least you can do to help yourself is to SLEEP ON YOUR LEFT SIDE (acid from your stomach cannot seep up into the esophagus if you sleep on your left side).  That does not mean sleeping on your stomach on the left side or on your back......YOU HAVE TO SLEEP ON YOUR LEFT SIDE.  Use a pillow (vertically or a body pillow) to train yourself to do so.

Good luck.
