Hello; I have been visting this site for the past six months or so. I have had a terrible bout of GERD for the past seven months. This occurred after decreasing the very small amount of a tricyclic antidepressant I had been on for years to help with symptoms of Chronic fatigeu syndrome. By discontinuing this medication I was trying to do something good for my health but it backfired, and I began the worst GERD seige I have ever experienced. I have read the posts about DGL licorice and it is helpful but wouldn't give me the punch I needed to stop the suffering. I eat a really healthy diet naturally but made even more modifications but still I had the touchy esophagus and woke up every morning with some burning; was also hyper reactive to foods during the day. ( Yes, the bed has been on blocks and inclined for months) Finally made the decision to try only one more supplement and I ordered Manuka Honey from New Zealand. I was wonderring if anyone else has tried this with success? I think I have a really hyperreactive esophagus at the moment from all its been through since discontinuing that medication but the honey really calms it down and now I can sleep, amazingly with no burning. Just wanted to share this. Aloha from Hawaii.

Justine, I have never tried the Manuka Honey but if it works I would like to give it a try.  I have been drinking Mangosteen juice for over a week now but I don't feel any different or any relief.  Some people swear Mangosteen helps with acid reflux.  Unlike DGL, the mangosteen juice is quite delicious but very expensive.  I purchased a 24 oz bottle for $38.00, sometimes I think we are so desperate to get rid of this Gerd that we'd just about try anything (looking for a panacea)!!!!  Did you feel instant relief with the Manuka Honey?  I do eat local organic honey which I purchased a while back but didn't feel any difference either.  Good luck.....

Hi Porcelane Doll, i did feel some relief right away from this and it helps to neutralize acid in my throat which decreases the burning. If I blatently do something wrong, like i did last night when I ate fried fish, it relieved me of any burning during the night but today its caught up with me and i have some background burning. To be effective it has to have a potency factor of 16 or so, the websites will indicate which honey is the best for digestion. I don't now if there is a total panacea in most cases but I think it is very important to pay as much attention as possible to eating an alkaline diet for several weeks at least combined with soft foods to promote healing. Seems so hard to do doesn't it?
