Some time ago Dr Norm used to post on here but I can't find anything recent on the subject of low carb diets as a cure for GERD.

Has anyone been on this diet for any length of time? and is it working for those with high acidity?

Thannks for any help.

All that I know is that when I stay away from carbs (what I like to say is anything white)  I do much better than when I eat things like white bread, white rice, sugar...
I am starting the south beach diet tomorrow to test my theory, but I do believe you are right!

I have been on and off Norm's diet for well over a year......and yes it works. Personally, for me I have to cut way back on carbs..below 70 grams. I also, try to limit my dairy and eat more "green foods". It can be difficcult.. but it has woked for me!!

Hi All...Lowering my "bad" carb intake has helped.  As for probiotics, be careful!!  I tried taking a really strong version and it really hurt my stomach ( I thought since my case of GERD was so bad, I needed a really strong probiotic).  I am actually going tomorrow to get some of a milder version, I also have had luck with digestive enzymes.
Here's to happier stomachs!!!

TroubledTummy, which one did you try that hurt your tummy?  And how long did it take before it did it?  The one i'm going to try is In-Liven.  It's organic and it has digestive enzymes..

It was a "critcal care" probiotic and I have since been told that it is for the colon more so than the stomach.  It took about 3 days and man it really hurt.  Anyway, today I go back on a lesser version designed for GERD/LPR.  I also like the DanActive yogurt drink, it is also full of probiotics.
GoodLuck!!!

TroubledTummy, what is this other probiotic?  And...was it given to you by a GI?  I have terrible LPR, I'd love to try it...
