I haven't been officially diagnosed w/GERD - rather w/pill esophagitis. I took 2 Fosmax in January - on subsequent weeks - strictly according to package instructions - and ended up w/a very uncomfortable feeling of a pill caught in my throat and intermittent mild nausea which persist almost 5 months later- yikes.
I finally got to see a GI doc last week for a pre-endoscopy consult. The endoscopy scheduled for later this month. No one put me on an official GERD diet but after reading this very helpful website I've been avoiding wine, citrus, tomatoes, spicy foods. Somehow I missed the memo about also avoiding fat! Yesterday I went to a grad party and had a yummy Pie n Burger (a SoCal favorite), a small amount of fries and a Diet (hah!) Coke for lunch and salmon salad (w/light mayo) for dinner.
I feel sick to my stomach this morning so have trolled online and now see that fat and carbonated beverages are also bad. Can I ask about a couple of my staples? Any issues w/a) hot oatmeal (the microwavable Trader Joe's kind) w/brown sugar and dried cranberries or b) raw cashews? I know cashews have fat but is it the "bad" kind vis a vis GERD?
Thanks so much!
