I've been having a lot of issues for about 5 months or so. I'm posting in this forum because what I've read on other posts sounds so similar to what I'm suffering with. I've had chest heaviness and trouble swallowing along with pains near my stomach that go all the way up to my throat. Sometimes it seems like my back hurts too. My doctor had me go in for an EKG and chest x-ray and I had blood tests done to test for infection, everything came back fine. She put me on Prevacid once a day which helped me with the swallowing problem, but I still feel the heaviness and pain. She said that if it doesn't improve that I need to have an EGD done.

I'm really scared though. I don't know how common it is, but what happens if it's cancer? I'm 26 with 4 kids and not ready for all of that. I'm hoping it's something that can be cleared up since I've always been a decently healthy person, but who knows. I know I'm a high stress, high anxiety person and that can cause these things, but I'm still so scared. I'm tired of being in pain. I feel so sorry for everyone who has to suffer, I really do. People who cope with chronic illlnesses or cancer are the strongest people ever.

I know how you feel.

It seems a lot of people get (often quite severre) chest pains with GERD. I tend to have milder ones, but they just don't go away, virtually ever. My doctor reckons it's all due to acid reflux, but that doesn't stop me worrying.

I'm also rather prone to anxiety (in fact it was only after a period of debilitating anxiety I started having reflux problems) and I get this dilema all the time - on the one hand I kow I'm a healthy person in my mid 20s who's had blood tests, ECGs etc done - on the other, I get convinced on occasions that it's something more serious. Logically, that's extremely unlikely, but I know what it's like to be convinced that it is the case.

It's nice to have someone understand how I feel. I always feel like it could be something worse. It's probably just a combination of GERD, anxiety, acid reflux, allergies and stress, but it's so hard to deal with. Aside from that I think I have some pretty severe muscle problems in my chest. Whenever I am active my chest gets so sore and my muscles seem to get so tight that it seems like I can barely breathe.

This weekend my family and I went out of town to upper Wisconsin. I was feeling pretty good before we left other than feeling a little sore because of cleaning before I left. I did some tubing and water skiing and today I am miserable. My allergies are a mess today and my chest feels so tight. I really am having a hard time breathing in deeply. It's not really in the center though but around the sides and such.

I just wish I could be healthier. How many people have that same desire, right? Millions. I should stop complaining... it could always be worse.
