I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem. I have had gerd for quite a while. My GI Dr. prescribed Prevacid, taken in the morning. I was having a breakthrough at night and my regular dr. told me to take 2 prevacids - one at night. My GI dr. told me to take an otc antacid at night, as they seem to work better at night. I can control the acid reflux, but I find if I eat something before bed, I still get reflux which does not burn because of the antacid, but I get a very bad taste in my mouth from it. I even get nauseous. I quit eating before bed, and that solved it. But being a diabetic I have found that I should not go to bed with low blood sugar, something about the liver manufacturing sugar at night. Has anyone else had this problem, and what can you tolerate at night. Dairy seems to be the worst, except for cheese.  Tommi

Hi Tommi,

It sounds like you have bile reflux like I have.  This in addition to the acid reflux.  I take a double dose PPI in the morning, and 300 mg zantac every night.  Definitely helps the acid, but does nothing for bile reflux. I'm not sure how they would treat bile reflux.  I have documented erosive gastritis and erosive esophagitis, presumably from the bile reflux.  Strange thing is, I still have my gall bladder?  I'll know more in a couple of weeks.  I strive not to eat anything after 7pm, and I keep rolaids on my nightstand.  Sometimes, I sleep sitting up and that helps too, although it is a bit uncomfortable.

I hope you get to the bottom of this, and I'll post when I get some news.  I figure we can't be the only ones suffering from this.
