My name is Dave, I'm 20,I'm new to the board and I have been diagnosed with GERD.

I take Prilosec OTC (2 pills in the morning) and Maalox after I eat 75 minutes later.

I had an Upper GI Ultrasound and Barium Swallow and both of them came back negative for Ulcers..etc. (taken like 2 weeks ago...)

But tonight as I was laying down on my side, i had a pain in my stomach.

I don't know if It's an Ulcer now or something worse, all I know is that I'm really scared.

Right now i am taking some tea for it and hopefully when I go to the Gas Doctor Wednesday, he finds nothing wrong with me.

Please Respond,

Hi Dave, No need to be scared...believe me, it does no good to get all shaken up about it. In fact it can sometimes make things worse. Ulcers can be healed. I remember when I was diagnosed with gerd about 4 years ago. I was put on Nexium and Maalox became a new food group for me! But I also remember that I got alot of random stomach pains. I believe it's most likely just your stomache reacting to the prilosec.

If I remember correctly, ulcer usually give a burning type pain.

Hang in there!

Hi Dave,
Gerd can bring us symptoms even while taking meds. You have to still watch your food and drink intake. Your test for Ulcers were negative so that should give you some comfort that an ulcer isn't causing the pain you felt. Stay away from refined sugar, tomatoe products, and spicy foods. Watch to see how well you digest dairy products too, because all of the things can exacerbate symptoms in some of us sufferers. Also, look at the ingredients in the tea you're now drinking.

Living with GERD for many of us is a life long battle of discovering what we can and can't eat comfortably. It's also been mentioned that high carb intake bothers many of us. Hope this helps.....

Thank you.

I ended up in the ER last night for stomach pains and I ended up wheezing once until I told my mother to bring me in.

They ended up putting me on Ultram and Reglan.

As for food wise, I have been doing very well avoiding the food I shouldnt eat but maybe it just ended acting up because I had 1 Devil Dog.

(which is chocolate.)

I ended up even losing around 4 pounds because of the junk I used to eat and drink which I gave up (lots of soda.)

The doctor also said there is a possibilty of having H. Plyori but I wont know that until Wednesday when the gas doctor checks it out...

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Thank you very much for replying to my question, I will keep you guys updated.
