I was diagnosed w/LPR over a year ago and was put on Prevacid and acidopholus. Recently I was taking 15 mg 2x/day. I ran out of my Rx and I had to cancel my insurance. I got samples from my doctor. When those ran out, I had him call me in an Rx. But 30 pills were $179 (w/out insurance) so I didn't get them.
I have been off the meds for about 2 or 3 days.

I think I have major acid right in the middle of my chest. I also keep burping and my stomach is upset. I have some diarrhea. I don't know if these are connected.

I recently (like a week ago) changed my diet to healthier things (cut out some sugar and simple carbs) as was told by a dietitian.
My diet has, for quite a few months now, included yogurt, so I stopped taking acidopholus.
When I was originally diagnosed, my problem was a vomiting feeling in my throat...not an acidy feeling but just the feeling right b4 you throw up.

Now, I have this burning in my chest; I assume its acid reflux??
I just got some 30 mg samples from my ENT...he says to take 2x/day (so double what I had been taking)
Could this stomach thing be something else or is it definitely reflux? I went home early from work b/c I felt so crappy.
Please, anyone help.

Another thing that is now happening is that I'm getting the symptoms back that originally caused me to call the ENT...a slight gagging feeling in my throat causing me to feel like I'll throw up. That's the best I can describe it, but it's not exact.
At one time my regular doc said to, in addition to the Prevacid, take something that helps w/post nasal drip (which I also have)...that that my be worsening the vomiting feeling. I couldnt do that either b/c 30 pills were $130. (Great health care system we have..)
Please anyone help?

There was recently an article on msnbc on how you could use natural remedies to treat acid-reflux instead of relying on pills and antacids. You can see the article here.

There's also a video from the Today show featuring Dr. Leo Galland, who talks about how things like carrot juice and licorice can help treat acid-reflux. He also discusses other foods people can use in their diet as natural remedies to the problem.

Because pills are so expensive and they cause side effects, I think the natural remedies are definitely worth a try. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I have heard of the licorice and I'll check that stuff out.
Have you (or anyone) had luck w/natural remedies? I've seen some people here that have but they still take their pills, so I'm thinking, 'then what's the point?'
