I did take Reglan for a few months before I had surgery along with Nexium.  It did help me a lot.  I don't think it is intended for long-term use.  I did not notice any side effects at all.

If I can answer any more questions, please feel free to ask.

I took reglan years ago for much longer than I was supposed to (didn't have great oversight from doctor).  It definitely helped (as long as I was taking a PPI as well), but I found that it did make very sleepy.  I was supposed to take prior to eating each meal throughout the day.  I only took it prior to dinner because I was so sleepy.  That's the only side effect I noticed.  Other than that, I never had a problem with it.

How many mg of a dosage was the reglan?  Because at high doses, there can be serious side effects.  maybe your doctor made sure that the amount was a good one, so that you'd be fine.
