I have been diagnosed with GERD a while back.  It got worse after the birth of my daughter in October.  I am on 80 mgs of Nexium.  My concern is, last night, I swallowed my nexium as usual, laid down and within 10 min I felt like I just swallowed fire and my throat just felt restricted.  It was so bad, that I took an ice pack and laid it on my throat.  It really hurt...this morning, after I swallowed my Nexium, it did it again.

I just ate some crakcer and I feel like it is hung up in my esophagus.  It took about 40 minutes of sipping on luke warm water for it to feel like the food was down.

I am scheduled for an endoscopy.  Will this test tell if the motility of my esophagus is off/slow.  I truly think that is what the problem is....any advice??? confused

No, it won't show motility. That is a different test. Instead of eating a cracker which is more apt to get stuck in throat and cause abrasions, sip on the water next iem. It will show if there is damage and next time you would probably be better with a warm pack than an ice pak for your throat. I think swallowing pills and then lying down is hard on esophagous. I do it all the time and think I am going to try and stop. Let us know what he says after endo.

Just a small helpful hint when you are having problems swallowing pills or food...Most people tend to tilt their head back,as if this will help you swallow the pill.  It doesnt.  Instead, tilt your head downwards, point ur chin down at your chest.  This forces the pill down.  I read this somewhere, and I tried it,and it does help.
Mom, you may be just having a flare up at the same time you are trying a new ppi.  Or, maybe nexium doesnt work for you.  I have been on nexium almost a month, and I cant say i notice much of a difference.  I dont know what the next step is for me...but im getting really, really sick of this gerds and lpr!!!!!!

I have tried Prilosec, Prevacid, and Nexium.  I have been on the Nexium since January.  I am wondering if I am immune.  I think there is a medicine you can take in addition to the Nexium.  My doctor mentioned the name but I don't remember.  Has anyone heard of Zinlori 75?  It is supposed to increase the mucous lining of the stomach.

Mom2sophia, I am on Protonix 40mg once a day. It for the most part has seemed to help me. It is a PPI like the Nexium. I do not know what Zinlori 75. I had a doctor tell me to take one Zantac 75 every evening also besides taking the Protonix I take every morning. But since you are on two Nexium a day you shouldn't need anything else.
