Please help me!!! I am trying to design some type of life plan to help those of us with this nasty disease...I guess the biggest problem is that for the majority of us living with GERD/LPR we don't know exactly what triggers us. It is different, depending on the day of the week and the time of the day!

Anyway, I guess that I can start, these are things that I know don't hurt me, the list is short....

White meat chicken
plain baked potatoe
not too ripe bananas (ripe ones kill me)
eggs (not fried)

I have trouble when I bend over too much or wear tight clothes. I also have trouble when I lay down or sit slouched over. Any type of stress or anxiety really makes me suffer. Walking is helpful, but I live in Arizona where right now at 8:14pm its 102 degrees outside. I can't wait until October and November when the weather gets better. Sometimes I wonder if the frustration over the heat is bad for me????

Well, hopefully this is a start to something that can help us all!!! I know that if we work together we can at least make a small dent in this situation...I really want to try and manage this without meds, I just hate the idea of being on them for me whole life....I have been off since May and have had good days and bad! I just feel like I have a good week and then 4 bad ones. I also feel like I have some type of chest pain every single day.....usually in the afternoon and evening.
Thanks to all!!!
I hope we can do this!!!

Veg and salad seem to be OK for me, except peppers and tomatoes (and chillis' of course) :)

Do you experience pain all of the time, or just when you are eating certain things? I feel pain all of the time---except first thing in the morning----I think it's b/c of my starting to eat---but, I am finding that I am starting to get 'cramps' after I eat-----chest/stomach pain, little tingles/cramps in my rib cage (all over)---then, it works its way all the way down! I have had a hard time wearing a bra(!) b/c of the pain around my sternum/back------I also find I have the pains when I slouch (driving, sitting, etc...).

I can actually eat plain yogurt and granola for breakfast---but, c'mon----such a bland diet (similar to BRAT) is just so..........not fair!

Good luck to you! and prayers too!

It is easier for me to explain what does cause pain:   spicy foods, onions, peppers, garlic, chocolate, carbonated drinks, carbs of any type (bread, rice, pasta) I love carbs sad    oh, I almost forgot dairy.  I have not had a glass of milk in years!

I really think milk does a number on my stomach but yogurt does not.  I don't understand it.  I know what you mean about slouching.  I cannot even rest on my elbows anymore or lean over at my computer.  I must sit straight or I get sick.  It is horrible.  Forget bending over.  The freight train of acid comes up and tries to choke the life out of me.  It takes a long time to get it swallowed down.   So I know exactly what you are going through.  I think salads are easy on the stomach but careful with the dressing! Gerd is a tough thing to deal with and there is just no end in sight!  I would like to hear of some more symptons because sometimes I have really crazy ones and I feel like no one would know what I am talking about it I try to explain!

Thanks to all for the response...I wish more folks would write though!  My symptoms are so varied that sometimes I can't tell what is wrong with me.  Tonight it is mostly chest pains and burping, but other times it could be pressure in my chest, sinus pain, arm and jaw pain.  I know that anxiety plays a huge role in my condition, but so do any of the negative emotions that I ever have!
I tend to have more trouble later in the day and at night, mornings are usually good for me.  I also know that my symptoms are much worse when I am premenstraul mad . What sucks is that I am entering the perimenopausal phase of my life and I am afraid the hormones are going to just wreck me...  I am also about 30 pounds overweight and I am working on losing the weight.  I am told that the weight loss may be the key for me because we suspect that I have a hiatal hernia.  Bending over is my arch enemy!  I can be fine and then do alot of bending and it will send me into a full blown attack!   I can say that I do have pain almost every day to some degree, on days that I really watch what I eat it is less tha others, there is some degree of pain daily!  What I can say with honest conviction is that I truly hate this animal called GERD!!!  It messes with my life and the life of my loved ones every day and I have to try and make it go away!!!
Take Care, lets hope some other folks join in n this post and maybe we can find some common thread!

There have been many, many threads regarding this subject since I been a member, and it appears that one of the common denominators for quite a few individuals was high carb intake. Now, I've never tested this theory to the fullest, as I was underweight at the time of discussions, but I do know that many foods with high carbs are problematic for me on an average day.

The foods you list with the exception of chicken/water have all caused me a problem at one time or another. Some fruits and veggies have also caused a problem. My beverage list consist of mostly water and sprite on occasion, as many juices bother me.

I drink Lactaid milk, and eat Lactose Free Ice-Cream. I've had problems eating Salmon, Tuna Fish, Salads, Shrimp, and Crabcakes in the past. So, as you see, many of us should probably be anorexic if they followed my list of foods that have caused problems in the past. I guess it's easier to name some problematic foods verses tolerable foods. Heck, I've even have problems with plain Yoghort(sp)....Oh, love all types of beans but they don't like me.  My list definately gets thicker.:{

Sometime ago, I was exp sinus like, jaw, arm, and other body aches and pains, initially, I thought they were somehow GERD connected but they weren't....So, make sure you check in w/doc about your symptoms. I hope your chest pain and other symptoms have subsided.

Take care of yourself.

Living with GERD - reflux disease and hiatal hernia.

I found an interesting article that you might find useful.
I'm trying some of these things myself starting today.
I hope you find relief from this misery.
