For the past couple of months I've been waking up between 2-5am with a sore throat and all the symptoms of acid reflux.  Previously the symptoms I normally had for acid reflux was chest pain, gas, and nausea.  My endo suggested taking a Zantac in addition to my Protonix when I have an attack.  My primary suggested eating 1 Activa yougurt daily and chewing 2-4 gaviscon tablets at bedtime with a full glass of water.  Following my endo's advice didn't help, but following the advice of my primary did.

Has anyone else tried this?  What success or no success did you have?

Hi there Marburg...unfortunetly, I haven't had any experience with what you are talking about, but I do eat the Activia Yogurt, and love it! I hope others come along soon with some good advice for you hun!

Wishing you all the best.

Hi, I take Gaviscon at night and during my very worst episodes of hearburn it has helped. It doesn't always take it completely away but it calms it down enough to where I can sleep. I've tried the liquid but the tablets seem to work the best. The other things that help me some is eating a piece of bread. I know they say don't eat before bed but for some reason it helps absorb the acid and I feel a little bit better.

Thanks Law for giving your advice!

Also, the piece of bread tip seems logical, and in my opinion, seems like a good one!

Thanks for sharing!

I take a PPI daily and a lot of the times have to supplement with gavisicon or mylanta at night....which I take usually depends on my mood but they do help. I have also found that eating something like bread can help for a "middle of the night" episode.
