Just for everyone's information, I decided to post some of the most common symptoms of GERD...The symptoms are NOT limited to the ones I list, but these are some of the most common symptoms...

The main symptom of GERD is a frequent uncomfortable feeling of burning, warmth, heat, or pain just behind the breastbone, commonly referred to as HEARTBURN.  The burning sensation caused by GERD usually occurs after eating.

A sour or bitter taste in your mouth.  That is from the backflow of stomach acids and juices into your esophogus.

Excessive saliva.

Difficulty swallowing.  (this is more common in your advanced stages of GERD.)

Chest pains...it can be a dull, heavy discomfort that spreads across the chest.  It may occur with heartburn, and may be confused with chest pains of a heart attack.  If you are having chest pains and are in doubt...SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION AT ONCE.

Nausea...common in the morning.

May have hoarseness.

Again, please note, these aren't the only things that suggest GERD, but some of the more common symptoms.  And please, if you are having chest discomfort that you have never felt, or you are unsure, SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION AT ONCE.

I thought it might be a good idea to post this for some of our new friends who may be wondering if their symptoms could be GERD.

Please, if anyone has any other symptoms they think should be added, post away!

I had been symptom free of any type of symptoms for a couple of months until this week. Last Saturday I ate at my mother-in-law's and that evening I started having more than usual amounts of gas and multiple trips to the bathroom and now all of a sudden for the past couple of days I have started having the issues again with a good deal of belching, indigestion, all of a sudden and now a queasy stomach. I am trying to head this off at the pass and not let it bother me like two months ago. Don't believe it is quite as bad but I don't like a queasy stomach. I think the food I ate down there caused a good deal of this. Yuck.
Diagnosed with left sided UC in sigmoid colon and rectum 1986.
Put on Azulfidine 2 X3 a day and Rowasa enemas 60mg.
Had a rectal flare with bleeding in 1991.
Have been pretty much in remission overall other than a few flares over the past 21 years.
Medicine changed to Asacol 400mg 2 pills X3 times a day.
Was taken off of all meds in 2004 after being symptom free for two years.
Diagnosed with acid reflux 2005. Put on Protonix 40mg.
Had a flare of proctitis in January 2007. Have been using Canasa 1000mg suppositories nightly since January 2007. Had a proctalgia reflux episode in June 2007. Was taking probiotics nightly.
Was put back on Asacol 400mg 2 pills 2X a day in July 2007 as a maintenance against colon cancer.

Sorry to hear that, and I hope it passes for you soon! Maybe it's just from what you ate, and it will pass. Lets hope!
