Has any one had any endoscopic treatments for GERD, did your insurance cover it, how much down time did you have, and how do you feel about the results??

Thanks!

Hi doghouse...just wanted to extend a warm healingwell welcome to you! I hope you are finding the information you need here.

Unfortunetly, I do not have the answers to this question, as I have no experience with endosopic treatments. I hope some of our other members will be along shortly with some of their experiences.

Again, welcome to healingwell.

Doghouse,

I did have the lap Nissen and repair of a hiatal hernia in 2005.  I am glad I had the surgery done.  I took a couple weeks off work.  My insurance did pay for most everything, of course, I still had a little bit to pay.

Have you have any of the work-up procedures yet, such as the Upper GI endoscopy, 24-hour pH probe, Barium Swallow, etc.?  I will be glad to try to answer any questions I can.

Take care!

I had an EDG showing esphogitis, confirmed with biopsy, last fall even though I was on a prevacid and carafate. I had a manometry and 24hr ph study done about 4 years ago when I was with another doctor. That doc swore I didn't have reflux, yeah I said bye bye to him. I've had several barium swallows- though none in the last year, gastric emptying test... etc etc over the years.

I really like my new gastro doctor, I just wish he did one of the endoscopic procedures. I think I would like to try that first before the nissen. However, I suppose I should stop jumping to things I would like to do until my appointment to see what I'm actually a candidate for. Last time I saw him he told me my esphogeal spasms were being cause by my esphogitis which was being caused by my reflux...so I would think there would be something surgically you could do to help that. I think I've taken every PPI out there eyes

Like I said in another post somewhere if I could live off of ice cream I would! ! yeah
