Hi, I'm a journalism student in Ottawa and am doing a health story on GERD. I've seen a few postings noting that symptoms of GERD increase when a medication like Nexium  or Losec is decreased or halted. Has anyone else experienced this?

No, in fact, I was able to get off all acid reflux medications and eat anything I want. This was about 2 years ago and I have had no symptoms of acid reflux since. In succession, I was on Prevacid, then Prilosec, then Nexium.

I had a terrible time going off Nexium. My insurance carrier wanted my to over the counter meds so I drastically upped the co-pay on Nexium. I tried pepcid and prilosec and they didn't even come close to controlling the acid like Nexium did. I have since bite the bullet and I pay the high price to take Nexium. I feel soooo much better.
