.....prior to my colonoscopy?  I start with the clear liquid diet Thursday---then, start taking the 'stuff' to clean myself out at 6 p.m.----will I get any sleep that night---or should I just bring a pillow to lean against the wall in the bathroom for some Zzzzzzz's?  (LOL!)  redface tongue

Will you be getting sleep??? Are you kidding? :) That would probably be a no! Of course it depends on what you have to take for the cleanout. In my previous scopes I had to drink Phososoda and by the time I went to bed I was fine, only had to get up a few times. But on my last one, I took the Osmoprep pills and I was up alllll night. Just be sure to drink plenty of liquids the day before or you can dehydrate yourself. Plus too, just think - if you get no sleep the night before, you will have a nice slumber the day of the scope! Gotta love the happy juice they give you in the Iv's :)

Great answer from Red...Try to get rest the day before, and of course, the day of, after the procedure, you will get more rest.

Again, good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Oh drats---I was hoping you were going to say that I will be done with the whole 'cleansing' by midnight! :( Hehe! I have to take something that starts with an "m" (the script is in the other room, and then, after I drink it----take 4 ducolax---nothing like cleaning!

So----after I take this stuff---I can still drink clear liquids right? I mean---I will probably make myself continue to poop, but not dehydrate myself! I can drink clear liquids until 6 hours before my procedure---which is at 1:15 pm! OY!

Most definately keep on the clear liquids until you have to stop. They're doing an endo too?

I actually had a couple of hours where I could just park myself on the potty....and then things started to slow down and I actually got some sleep. I only got up a couple of times during the night. This has been the same for me whether I've used golighty (stupid name!!), the pill routine ( don't remember what they are called but there are like 30 of the) and the fleets soda stuff you mix with juice or something. I've a few as you can tell...

How long you it will take to clean out really depends on your system. Everyone is different. It could take a few hours or almost all night (like it did for me).

A suggestion as well - depending on what prep you have to take, do not mix it with anything that you like! I made the mistake of mixing my Phospho-soda with apple juice and still can't look at the bottle let alone drink it (and it's been 1-1/2 years)!

Also, get something for your bum - it's going to get a bit sore (I used A/D and it worked wonders). Bring reading material into the b/r with you as well...you are so not going to get any rest!!! You will get plenty of rest during the scope and afterwards. Drink loads of fluids afterwards, you will be really thirsty. Good luck!

I had both the endoscopy and colonoscopy at the same time, too. The phosphosoda was an experience I'll never forget - I used apple juice, too, but did not become turned off by the juice forever. The juice was a better choice than water or ginger ale. I did not get real sleep the night before - I got a few cat-naps in between "running". To soothe the sore bum from all that "going", I had Tucks cleansing pads on hand. Those that say each person is different as to how long the clean-out takes are totally correct. Good luck.

Hi all,

I sort of cheated when I had to do the prep work last month for my endo/colonoscopy.  Instead of starting it late in the day like they said, I began first thing in the morning, about 7:00am.  I was in the ladies room all day, up until 7:00pm that night, and then I slept like a baby all night long!  I am not telling you to go off your doc's orders, follow them, but I called my GI specialist, asked if I could begin earlier in the day (I need my sleep due to some health issues) and she said that was fine, but to take all of the prep gunk.  So, I got to weave off the times I took the prep, just not the dosage or instructions.

In Canada, we have a baby bum cream that is heavenly for diaper rash.  By the time hubby got home later that afternoon of prepping, I was bawling like baby, could not even walk due to my tender tushy, so off he went to get some Penaten and within seconds I was fine.  Wish I knew this beforehand!

Good luck!  The prep work sucked, but the procedures were nothing!
