I've been on Nexium (take it every morning when I wake up) for almost 8 months and afraid this may begin to cause harm to my body as opposed to helping it. I'd like to stop taking it but conflicted. I don't notice it working, however, I was off it for a week and felt worst.

I'd like to stop taking Nexium, try to eat low acid foods and turn to suppliments (apple cider vinegar, slippery elm, drinkable Aloe Vera Gel) for help. But how much is too much suppliments? Does anyone know? I also take vitamin B-50 and Ginko Biloba.

I've had Gerd for a year now and have on-going chest pain which can get really bad (almost paralyzing) to not so bad but still uncomfortable and concerning. By reading up on Gerd, chest pain can happen immediately after a meal and generally lasts up to 2 hours. That's not my case. I have it all the time. Sometimes I wake up with it. Am I the only one? Is it something else in addition to GERD. I'm getting nervous.

Would love some feedback.

Thanks
Nic

Hi Nic

You should be eating foods now that are low acid and watch what you are eating and even drinking. Do you keep the head of your bed raised?

The best thing to do is to find someone that is in the field of natural meds to get you started. Have you called or made an appointment with your DR on the Nexium? If you need more of something different. Just dont go off the med, go off slowly if that is what you want to do. But would be best to call someone that is in the natural med field to get you started the right way.

But having pain all the time would be a good time to call and make an appointment with you DR as well. I can understand getting nervous and even scared many of us have been there done that. Just remember too that getting nervous and scared can also add to the problem.

But do call your DR, and then go from there.

Hope all works out, let us know. Best of luck :)

Mia

Hi there Nic...and welcome to healingwell. Mamma gave you some great advice, and her best piece of advice was calling your doctor and going from there. I definately think you need to include your doctor in this, as it does sound like you are having some pretty big problems. Please, get in touch with your doctor, and keep us posted as to what's going on. HEALINGWELL is a great place for information, and support, so, please, stick with us!

Again, welcome aboard!

Thanks Tammy and Mia for the notes. I have an appointment with a specialist at the end of February which I'm looking forward to. I'll let you know how it goes.

In the mean time, I'm trying to watch what I eat.. but difficult considering the holiday parties. Still taking nexium. Just started trying Apple Cider vinegar in the morning and then Aloe Vera drinkable gel at night. In time we'll see if it helps any.

Best regards and happy holidays!
Nic

Nic...no problem, that's what we are here for...to help the best we can! I am glad you have a meeting with a specialist...do let us know how that goes.

I know it will be hard to watch what you eat, especaially now, during the holidays. Just do the best you can. I have heard some good things about both the apple cider vinegar, and the aloe vera drinkable gel....so let us know if that helps you out at all.

Happy Holidays to you as well, and I hope you can find some relief here until Feb.!!!!

Nic, we seem to be in very similar "boat". I also have had GERD problems with chest pain/discomfort (if it is GERD - have no clue anymore) for a year now and NOTHING seems to be helping. EDG done 11 months ago with small hiatal hernia and mild esophagus inflammation. Then, tried Prevacid (once, twide a day), Protonix, Nexium and no PPIs helped. Did gallbladder removal and that did not help either.

Pain in chest area is almost always there and I could not see any correlation with food. Pain warries - from mild discomfort to squeezing, almost unbereable, pain that comes and stays for hours. Did manometry which showed low pressure of LES spicnhter and I think data from PH test was screwed somehow. Pain is almost always associated with joint weakness, especially knees. in general at times feel pretty weak ... don't know why.

Gastro thinks that my symptoms (visited few known gastros) could not come from small hernia/low LES spinchter, but could be related to "visceral sensitivity". I was even recommended to see psychatrist - will try it out, but can't beleive that this could be caused by my mind. I know there could be brain-gut connection, but I don't feel at all that my mind is causing all this pain unless I can do it witthout knowing it.

Hope all of us feel mych better in the upcoming year.
