I'm sort of an odd ball when it comes to having psoriasis
. I have in only along my hairline BUT if I didn't control it, it would creep down my forehead, down the sides of my face and into my ears. I never let it get that far (as in not too severely) to tell the truth because even though I am not a vain person, who wants to have white scaly things on their face?! :) I used an OTC clear gel for my psoriasis
and it seemed to contain it fairly well. No one can really say that it will spread but more then likely it will if it's not contained. Moisturizing doesn't really prevent psoriasis
but it can help it. Psoriasis
is an auto immune condition and there is no cure for it. We can maintain it and try to prevent it from spreading or becoming worse. It's a lifelong battle and it stinks! I battled my psoriasis
for nearly 25 years and the only thing that worked for me is being on an immune suppressing medication.

Fifteen year ago I got this spot on the bottom of my right foot that started out like a blister. It broke open and dried and cracked. This happened for years on and off and was limited to the right foot only. Sometimes the blisters covered half of the bottom of my foot. Then last summer in my hairline above my forehead was this thick skin peeling off quite frequently. In August of this year I woke up one morning with severe cellulitis in my legs along with with both feet covered in blisters and both hands. Then came the thick plaques along with a lot of these blisters being infected immediately. I went to one dermatologist who said no question psoriasis, but he would not treat me. Said it was too severe and I am already on Humira for my crohns. He said he was not comfortable taking me on as a patient. He said he was referring me to the guru of psoriasis in our area. I use Vectical and Taclonex and two other ointments and its still bad. I have also been dx'd with Psoriatic arthritis.
It can go either way, stay contained or spread. I have been given a lot of litature about this disease and would urge you to educate yourself on the web at reputable sites. Lotions will not prevent this. As far as I know there is one drug that can possibly prevent future outbreaks and its called Soriatane and its given IM. It cannot be given to women who are planning on getting pregnant because it causes severe birth defects. The litature I have says triggers can be caused by stress, infections, certain medications, cold dry winter weather, and lack of sunlight. I hope you can get yours under control.
