I have used Capsaizin cream in the past on my back, with no real burning. On vacation one time, my neck (I have cervical spondylosis) was hurting so badly that I put some Capsaizin on my neck. My S.O. and I got in the car headed for a family barbeque and I felt like my neck was on fire. It was very, very painful and I could not wait to get to our destination where I could run cold water on my neck. Some areas of skin are more sensitive than others, so if you use this cream, be very careful about where you put it and use it sparingly!
BTW, lotsa dotsa, arthritic pain is a symptom of DDD.
