Prednisone is not a drug to mess around with. Although 20mg is a low dose, you will get more and more side effects the longer you are on it. Stopping it will cause withdrawal if you've been on it a while, in extreme cases stopping suddenly has been fatal. Prednisone is prescribed for short term use only whenever possible.
Do not lie to doctors, or keep things from them regarding medications. You could get yourself into a dangerous situation that you'll need their help to get out of. If you ever need surgery, it's vital doctors know you take prednisone as if they don't give medications to help your adrenal response to stress (which long term prednisone use suppresses) it can be very dangerous, and your adrenal gland may not work properly again even after you've stopped taking prednisone.
Prednisone has a lot of uses and can be very effective, but don't underestimate its risks and side effects. If you want to try it, do so only under medical supervision.
