I was told I am in the bed I made. While it hurt - it is partially true. Genes helped - but I also damaged becuase I am ADD and PTSD - so I built to battle stress.

I have played finger picking guitar since I was 6. 5 CDs about to start 6th - still trying to get someone to record so I am far from rich.

Here is the problem and for the 1st time in my life - I am quite scared. Films showed (left little) 8 years ago - nothing between joints - I do not use to play but now deformed - requires fusion to straighten.

I am left handed - so my left thumb being absolute winner for being worst - has constant swelling and pain. I ice and rest - to continue playing but hardly a moment now - with no pain - sometimes it wakes me.

I play upside down - long story and my right hand is not as bad - except for little finger which has larger knots. When I hit these joints they swell - it is very hard just in life not to bumb them now and then - building is gone.

Great great doctor took time with me - suggested fusion only as an option. Here is where someone who has done this or a doctor could help. I have wrapped with brace my left finger picking thumb and it seems to work ok but you know - this might not be true. Most motion is joint farther out - which is not in pain - but I know there is a little movement in the pip joint.

If I lose music - I simply do not know. Affording the surgury with little insurance is tough - but I will do what I have to -

Question is - is piano writing gone - with one fused finger? And is guitar playing gone with fusion? There is no pip joint replacement.

Pain becomes intolerable I avoid pills - I use ice and heat - as directed - ice after hurting bad when dipped for mintues gives a little rest from pain I must say -- but this is coming.

Can anyone give me some info where you have had the same issues (finger picking) My left hand utilizes two fingers to fast finger pick - while I chord with entire right hand - thus - problems simular on right hand - I am scared large here -

Any help out there?
