A few years ago, I banged my middle finger, right hand (just below the nail), on a shower door. Within a few weeks, a bony lump formed on the back of my finger and within a few more weeks, my finger was badly deformed.
A few weeks ago, a door slammed on my left middle finger just under the nail, and the same thing happened. A lump has formed on the back of that finger. This time, I went to the Orthopedist to try to avoid the deformity. He said he thought it might be scar tissue from sarcoid, which I have had for years. However, he said he could not find any relationship between sarcoidosis and trauma. He said he might do a surgical biopsy and remove the lump but it might grow back.
Today, I got a second opinion and the Doctor said basically the same thing except he did not mention the sarcoidosis. He said there was no way to stop the deformity since I have some arthritis in other fingers. I just think it strange that this happened twice and probably none of this would have occurred if I had not bumped my fingers. Has anyone ever heard of this? I'm considering having the lump removed.
