Good morning! I am new to this forum and I am glad I stumbled upon it. In the last 9 months or so, I have had issues with my knees. One of my knees is awaiting surgery and is a long ongoing issue. Nothing that isn't or wasn't manageable until I "tweaked" it. Strangely enough, that isn't really the leg/knee I am having the most issues with at this point. In the last few weeks especially, I have developed debilitating pain in my shins. They thought initially is may be "shin splints" of sorts from having injured my bad knee and then adjusting my walking to make up for the injury. But since that point, I have had unbelievable pain in both legs, from immediately below the knee on to mid-shin. It ALMOST feels as if when I stand and go to walk, my shin bones slide UNDER the knee or kneecap. There also seems to be hard lumps just below both knees where the main pain is. One note regarding everything..I have a SERIOUS vitamin deficiency (multiple really) where my body isn't' absorbing ANY calcium and my Vitamin D (and B to some extent) levels are "dangerously low". The doctors have tried every combination of Vitamins in hopes of improving things but my Vit B and D levels have been at the "dangerously low" levels for about 5 years now. The pain I am experiencing is beyond words. When something like this happens and seems to be affecting multiple things at the same time, does it sound like anything like Osteoporosis? Anyone I have gone to seems perplexed. What sort of doctor is the BEST one to go to for something like this? A Rheumatologist?

Hello, I haven't been here for quite awhile, and from what I see, it doesn't look like this forum is exactly flourishing, but who knows.... I wanted to comment on your situation, because I had both knees replaced nearly ten years ago, and I have intense pain in my right knee. The orthopedist I consulted about this didn't have much to offer me, but did remark that I seem to have a condition where the bone grows "under" the prosthetic. Otherwise, everyone seems to think I don't have a problem, when I know that I do. I'm not at all sure what to do, although I take LDN and I use various pain control measures, to little avail. Your remark about "shin splints" reminded me of how it feels, but perhaps that is not what you're experiencing. I'd be interested to know if you're making any progress managing your problems. I too have dangerously low Vitamin D, but have been supplementing for years, and I use a supplement that's 10,000 IUs daily, rather than the prescription I used to use. I have been to rheumatologists and integrative physicians, and the latter seems to have been most helpful. Otherwise, I just hear "osteoarthritis," go home, lose some weight, etc. I really feel that we are living in an increasingly toxic environment, and that there is way more going on than the allopathic physicians would have us believe.

10,000 IU daily of vit D3 is a toxic level, from a study I read.

I use 2000 IU in the summer, here in PA, when I am outside in the garden. I double that, or even use 5000 IU daily in the winter, when I do not go out much. I note that I need to up my level right now, as my latest level was only 49 and am just starting being indoors because of cold and rain.

Before starting on the supplement my level was 19. I don't notice a difference in how I feel, but when I made my hubby take it also, he got rid of all the heme spots (old bruises that didn't go away for years) on his legs within a month.

I recommend looking up studies, and take advice on forums with a grain of salt.

If you are having unusual bone movement in your knees, maybe an orthopedic surgeon could help you. Rheumatologists are highly trained, but they are few and far between.

Just curious if they have checked out your parathyroid function?
