Mom has OA in her knees and has had great success with the Synvisc injections. These are given as a series of 3 injections into each knee. The old fluid is removed and the synthetic fluid is injected, all withthe sam needle and although it hurts some, Mom says it's really nothing compared to the relief she gets afterward.
Her first set of synvisc gave her significant relief for 3 years. It's 2 years since her last set and she's leaning towards having it done again.
In addition, I've been using LidoDerm patches on my knees. There was a large clinical trial going on with these to compare the relief of the patches to that offered by Celebrex. The results were impressive and were leaning towards equal relief. Unfortunately, that was at the same time that Vioxx and Celebrex were pulled from the market and now the drug companies are reluctant to use those meds in a trial, so I guess we may never see the final outcome of those studies. Sigh.
