Those of you that have allergies to chicken, have you ever had your gall bladder checked? Diarrhea and pain after eating greasy foods is a main symptom of gall bladder problems. I thought I was allergic to peanuts, but it was really my gall bladder. I had problems for years before we figured out the real problem. I've had mine out and now can eat peanuts again. Good luck. It sounds more like you had what is called an 'intolerance' to peanuts.  So, yes, that may be why it affected your gallbladder.  I had completely atypical symptoms with my GB and they told me it was not my gallbladder til I had it finally removed, and then they said it was diseased, not working and full of stones! lol

Usually, allergies themselves present in a completely different manner. Some people actually begin to go into what is called anaphylactic shock and could die from some of their allergies.

Just as a reminder, be very careful about these things. The best way to go about things are working together with your allergist and physician. After all they are the professionals. Working with them, by asking all questions, getting test done, and letting them know how you are doing. Allergies can be from mild reactions (sneezing, itchy eyes) all the way to severe- anaphylactic shock. And a mild reaction can turn into a severe one within minutes. For this reason you need to know what is going on. Find out if it is an allergy or intolerance! Best of all, avoid avoid avoid! ... Know what your symptoms are, every reaction can give different symptoms, but you can tell if something is not right. Remember stomach pains, diarrhea and vomiting are also symptoms of a severe allergy (there are many more symptoms). Everyone is different when it comes to symptoms. For an example i know someone who gets hives and ashtma symptoms and mine are totally different, I get lathargic, swelling of hands and lips, and go unconcious. But we both require medical attention. See your allergist!

I posted on this a long time ago, in fact - I forgot about this message board. I have noticed that I sometimes get an allergic reaction to tuna as well. It is not hospital material, but it is the same reaction I receive from eating chicken. Severe stomach pain followed by the oh so friendly bathroom.

Does anybody else have a similar reaction to tuna? Does anyone know of any linkage between poultry and tuna? I seem to be allergic to all poultry (Chicken, turkey, eggs) as well as tuna (just starting).

I did in fact try to eat free range chicken a couple years ago - I still developed a reaction. I have an appointment with my allergist in the coming month and I will be sure to update you all on the outcomes. I want to try free range again, but am a bit nervous to - I think I will follow the doctors orders. I will also try to determine any correlation between chicken & tuna.

Lets try to get more postings here - see if we can't beat this thing.

I have been allegic to chicken/turkey my whole life! I hate it because it smells so good, I can eat very very small amounts, but some chickens effect more adversly than others, or when I eat a non-all beef hot dog by mistake its even worse.

I have never been to a Doctor for it, but I have found that dipping my finger in whiskey and touching the tip of my toungue, my chest pains vanish instantly although temporaily. Why?

(Sipping the whiskey works but I don't drink alcohol)

I too am allergic to poltry. I hate it. My reactions to chicken/turkey are that my throat starts to close and I get a bad stomach ache. I have to either throw up or use the bathroom to feel better. I have even cooked some for our son and pulled it apart with my fingers and then touched my liops and they start to swell. I have never had to use an epi pen or do I have one. I hope to not ever have too. I have found noly one thing related to chicken that I can eat. One Thnksgiving my wife decided to make the dresing with 100% fat free chcken broth and no chicken meat. I ate all day and all of the leftovers. It was great. She has since started doing this and it works great. Hope this helps someone who like me had to give up dresing becasue of this. I also have to eat all beef hotdogs. Talk about taking away the food choices at your local ball games.

I'm glad you found something. But please still be careful!!! Speaking of all beef hotdogs, I had one yesterday. Had a reaction from it, I assume cross contamination!! Once again... be careful!!!!

One of my adult daughters is allergic to all Poultry, Eggs, and even feathers. She has severe stomach pains & other symptoms when she eats any poultry or eggs or any prepared dish that has them in it. She was tested and confirmed her allergies, therefore, she carries an epi pen with her. I also get bad stomach pains & D when I eat poultry, however, I can eat eggs with no problem. A lot of hot dogs, plus several frozen pizza's in the supermarket have chicken as an ingredient, which surprised me, the pepperoni must be made with chicken. Like previous postings, I have a hard time ordering from a restaurant menu, after scanning over all the chicken dishes on the menu, I feel nauseus because I've been sick so many times eating chicken. I am also lactose intolerant, so thank goodness for Lactaid milk and Lactaid ice cream, although lately the 100 percent lactaid free ice cream seems to cause me grief for some reason. Also, coffee, coke, and anything else with caffeine will give me stomach pains simular to when I eat chicken, so I stay away from caffeine too. I have to read food labels on everything to make sure chicken (and milk and caffeine) are not included as an ingredient. I am thankful I ran onto this website, I'd never heard of anyone else except me and my daughter who've had an allergy to chicken. My husband is allergic to certain shell fish, and my other daughter is allergic to just orange roughy fish, they both have severe reactions, like throat closing off and hives. The person who posted about having reactions to tuna may have another allergy to just tuna. My other daughter can eat other fish, however, she can't even be in the same room where orange roughy fish is being cooked, her skin starts to tingle and itch.

My daughter just turned two. She is allergic to Peanuts,nuts, Fish, eggs, beef, rice, coconut, wheat, dairy, sesame, and almost all legumes. I have been feeding her Turkey, chicken and duck. She started hiving out two days ago. I am not sure if she developed an allergy to turkey now or if it was the garlic I put in the turkey. She also has had severe eczema since she was 5 months old. As a mom I am besides myself. Watching her have reaction after reaction, and lose food groups on a weekly basis. What is really frustrating is at family get togethers all the food that is served is always everything she is allergic to. Also people bring things to my house she cannot have. I am very frustrated and depressed. I try not to be because my daughter is doing very well development wise. She is beautiful and very happy. When I try to explain to her Aunt and Grandma that it isn't fair to have bread and cookies and cakes all sitting out for her to see. She is not old enough to understand why she can't have the stuff.
Any suggestions or support would be greatly appreciated.

WOW! Am I glad that I read this. My symptoms started about a year ago. At first I couldn't figure it out. The only time I would have a reaction was when I would eat fried chicken tenders and an egg roll at the convenience store down the road. The only symptom I had then ( and the only symptom I continue to have) is tingling in my fingers. It would happen only when I ate that combination of foods. I thought it was the egg roll, so I experimented with other egg rolls with no tingling. I decided it must be chicken. Now I get the tingling if I eat grilled chicken at home, fried chicken at the convenience store. Today I got the tingling from a turkey reuben (which is new)! It never goes beyond tingling. It seems to set in about 15 minutes after consumption, and lasts usually about 15 minutes, occasionally longer. I can eat frozen chicken tenders without symptoms. And I don't get the tingling every time I consume chicken. It seems if I don't eat chicken for a couple of weeks, I won't get the tingling. But if I eat chicken several times over a short period of time, I get the tingling and it intensifies each time it's consumed. It also has gone from tingling in my hands to tingling in my arms as well. I haven't been tested for an allergy. I thought my doctor would think I was a wack job if I walked in and told him that my arms and hands tingled whenever I ate chicken. He's an old school kind of guy and would probably laugh and say, "well, don't eat it". Easier said than done. I love chicken! Fried, grilled, slathered in sauce, you name it.

You may want to get referred to an allergist. Don't eat chicken any more, until testing is done. I know exactly how hard it is to go from eating chicken almost everyday to NONE! The tingling may be warning signs, and your reaction can get worst at any time. Don't let it get worse!

How strange? I thought I was the only person in the world with this most awful allergy...
And it has really affected my life to say the least. It all started when I was young, and to make things worse, my family raised chickens. We literally had 10s of thousands of chickens so chicken was a daily item on our family menu. It started with chest pains. Everytime I ate it, I would get the pains.. I would tell my mother, but she would just say it is in your head, thinking since we ate so much chicken that I was just being a little brat and did not want to eat it (this was 20 years ago, and my mother is a most excellent mom so it is not her fault because who ever heard of someone allergic to chicken). So this persisted until I was about 10 when I was at a water park.
My friends were eating chicken nuggets and I was hungry (being 10 I spent my daily allowance in the arcade) so I decided to share theirs.. This is when it began.. I did not get the pains, instead I went in to severe anaphylactic shock. So an ambulance rushed me to the hospital, and the doctors told my parents I almost died.. Scary, but the doctors thought I had just got stung or bit by something since it was so severe. So the very next day I eat chicken again, and bam, same thing happened.
Finally, my mother realized that all those years I was telling the truth so she felt really really bad, and still insists that she almost killed me.
Now this is where the fun began. My reactions were severe even to the smallest amount.. Every restaurant we would have to ask all the questions.. Is your food chicken-based? Do you cook this on the same grill as chicken? Are your hot dogs all beef? etc, etc, etc.. And many many times I would get the wrong answer and it would happen again.
But is seems over the years my reactions weakened so I could test out food, even chicken in the smallest amounts. So occasionally I would test to see if I was still allergic since I grew out of most of my allergies, but no, everytime I would get the tingling sensation on my lips and tongue.
And the worst problem was I had the life long dream of being a Marine sniper like my father. My whole childhood was spent shooting guns, practicing for my dream, and I was very good as well, but when I went to join I was disqualified. The biggest let down of my life. I hate chicken!!!
Nevertheless, about five years ago, I was transferred to Taiwan, where I still reside today. So I continued to test chicken, and I noticed that over here I never got the tingling sensation, and one day I got brave and ate a whole chicken leg. It was heaven, i could finally eat poultry (could always eat eggs)! I finally got to try the famed buffulo wings that I always just got teased with by the most wonderful smell.. I loved it, and still do.. BUT the first time I went back to the states, I told my mom to watch, I am going to eat chicken and it will not affect me! To my surprise, once again I went into shock right away and had to do the hospital routine again.
So now as long as I am home in Taiwain I can enjoy all the chicken I want, but back home in the states it is a killer to me.
I find this quite strange? For some reason I am allergic to American chickens, but Taiwanese chickens I have fell in love with.. I can eat to my heart's content???????

Taiwanese chickens are raised differently. There may be drug or other additives in the feed of American chickens that give you trouble but which are not fed to chickens in Taiwan. Have you tried Organic and/or Free Range chicken in America?

Oh my gosh.  I thought my son and I were the only people allergic to chicken, turkey and tuna.  I am still too amazed to type anything else right now.  I am going to call my parents; they will also be amazed.  I just googled it and here yall are!  I am just a little late I guess.

Sorry to hear you both have this allergy. It's so weird how alot of people who are allergic to fowl are also allergic to tuna! What type of reactions do you and your son have??

Hi everybody. Sorry for the very long post, most of it is about my recent trip the hospital.

I've had chicken allergy for over the past 10 years. I can eat eggs with no problems, but the last time I ate turkey I felt a little stuffed up. I learned of my chicken allergy from an allergy test about 10 years ago. It was nothing too major, I would just get a stuffy nose and feel warm when I ate chicken. I still ate chicken all I wanted up until a year ago, when chicken started sending me to the can. Last year I decided to stop eating chicken all together for 3 months. I felt much better, but caved in to a Popeye's chicken sandwich, which I think sent me into shock as I couldn't breathe well and my body was ice cold despite wrapping myself in 3 blankets. I ended up sleeping it off and woke up feeling OK with just stomach pains and trips to the can the next day.

Flash forward to today and it's been about a year since I've tasted chicken. I've tried to avoid it at all costs.

Yesterday morning I ended up going to the hospital from I suspect to be some kind of chicken ingredient that was in the food I ate. I was at a friend's house and he had some Chinese pork dumplings and cooked some up for us. My friend's mother even told me a week earlier to be careful when I eat Chinese food as sometimes they use chicken powder for flavouring, she even prepares special non-chicken dishes for me when she cooks for me.  My friend said they were pork dumplings but didn't know if his mother had used any type of chicken ingredient to flavour them up. His mother was still sleeping at the time, so we couldn't ask her. I ate one just to test it out, waited 5 minutes, felt fine then ate about 5 more.

10 minutes pass and I notice it's getting hard for me to breathe and I feel anxious and also a bit confused...uh-oh...

I try to act cool and battle it out myself for awhile, but then I started getting really cold. I was getting a little worried at this point and pondering if I should go to the hospital. Then my body starts cramping up and I notice that I'm shaking a bit. I try to turn on my MP3 player switch with my thumb but my thumb doesn't want to move for some reason. My body felt really tense and riggid. I tell myself to breathe, but it takes multiple tries to get myself to breathe or even swallow. I ask my friend to drive me to the hospital because I feel like I'm going into some type of shock and I feel bit light-headed.

After running around in what seemed like a hospital maze, we find the registration counters and I check in. I tell them my name, address and other info, but my answers are slow as I'm still a bit confused. We wait in the waiting room for about an hour and I slowly start to feel better. The symptoms come and go in waves, but I don't feel so bad anymore. I finally get to see a doctor after 2 hours and I'm feeling pretty much OK by then, my throat hurts but I can breathe, my body is warm again and I'm thinking more clearly. The doctor gave me 4 capsules of Diphenhydramine aka "Benadryl" 25mg each. I took 2 and they made me very sleepy (supposedly Diphenhydramine is used in many sleep-aids such as Nytol). I woke up 7 hours later and found moderately dark bags under my eyes when I looked in the mirror.

When I went into my kitchen for dinner today, I see a huge 1KG Costco size can of Knorr's Chicken Powder. I tell my father about my hospital trip in the early morning and ask him if he used any chicken powder in the dinner he was cooking. He assures me there's no chicken powder in any of the food. I sit there staring at my food for a few minutes, scared to eat any of it. I ended up eating my food because I was starving with 2 bathroom trips following.

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow to update him on my situation and also get a referral to an allergist. I'm also going to ask for an EpiPen prescription.

If anybody feels the anaphylactic shock symptoms I wrote about above, I recommend you seek medical help immediately, as from what I've read online, it can be life-threatening.

I searched google and found this thread

when i was quite young my mom found out i was allergic to poultry. something i ate kept making me very sick. i would get ill and star throwing up and occasion would hallucinate. (i was yelling at my cousin to get off my dresser in the middle of the night after having an allergic reaction.) they fed me mushed bananans for a few weeks and every night added in another food. they thought it was the wild rice but it turned out to be the chicken. and on a weird note, i've never been allergic to eggs.

i've gone my whole life (since about age 7) without a bite of chicken (that i know of.) the dr. always told me i COULD potentionally grow out of it, but it wasn't likely. so i just went on my merry way.

about a year ago, i was eating at a relatives house who had told me she was making tuna noodle salad. i ate THREE HUGE scoops of it. (it was my favorite) and the next day, i found out, it wasn't tuna, she had run out so she put chicken in it instead. (from a can.) i hadn't gotten sick at all. so now i've gone on to try it here and there. i had a bite of chicken salad a few months ago, a spoonfull of chicken broth out of a soup, and the other night had a spoonful of cream of brocolli soup that had chicken stock in it.

i still haven't been daring enough to try a piece of chicken breast or eat more than just one bite. i guess there's still the fear that im only allergic to chicken in larger amounts so if i just eat an entire chicken breast i'll get really sick...

but i thought i would share. i thought i was the only who who had been allergic to chicken. it really sucked being allergic growing up because it seems like nowadays EVERY THING has chicken fat, chicken stock, or chicken broth in it! c'mon people! not EVERYONE can eat chicken!

Have you had any allergy testing done, such as the RAST test to show what foods you are allergic to?  It might be worth it for you.

I talked to my friend's mother and asked her the exact ingredients inside of the pork dumplings that sent me to the hospital. She said, pork, chives, flour to make the dumpling and CHICKEN POWDER!!! I only ate around 6 of them and they're quite small. I can't believe a bit of chicken powder could send me into anaphylactic shock. I'm pretty paranoid these days about what I eat. I always check food labels now.

I'm pretty much not going to eat at Chinese restaurants for now and I'm half Chinese, so our family goes out to Chinese restaurants for celebrations, etc. Whenever I eat at Chinese restaurants, I stay away from the Chicken. I drink the soups and eat other things, but still have mild reactions. It's been months since I've eaten at a Chinese restaurant with my family. I remember the last time we went I had a mild reaction and had to stop eating. My reactions are definitely more severe now, so I guess I'll make something for myself to eat prior to family celebrations at Chinese restaurants.

Actually I'm staying away from all restaurants for now, you can't really be sure if they've used any chicken products in any of their meals. I'm sure it's easy to make mistakes in a busy kitchen also and forget to hold the chicken products that go into my meal.

Wow, now that's scary! Yes, you do have to especially careful of restaurants. Even if they don't use a chicken product in their food, the food itself can still be prepared around chicken-y things. Btw, welcome to Healingwell :)

Glad I found this forum since I thought I was the only "freak", on the plus side it's always good for a conversation starter (or jokes). As with most people, when I first discovered my allergy (trial and error as a kid like a lot of you), my parents thought I was being finicky until they actually saw me choking. Since then the allergy has progressed to turkey, tuna and salmon (so far, eggs are still on the menu). I was recently out on business and went to a seafood restaurant and the other tech I was with insisted that I try the alligator, so I figure sure why not, at least it's not chicken. Well, when it came it had the same look and consistency of chicken, but I tried one anyway...hesitantly...when nothing happened right away, I tried a couple more and that's when it hit me and we had to leave the restaurant right away. I have found that if I drink a lot of cold water (in sips, not gulps), it helps a little.

I found out later from my room mate who was stationed in Louisiana that alligator neither looks nor tastes like chicken and what we were given could very well have been chicken mascarading as alligator, so some advice that I can give is if you aren't completely sure what you're eating, DON'T EAT IT!!

I am now much more cautious in seafood and asian restaurants (had a bad experience with the Won Ton soup; it was made in chicken broth most likely).

Welcome to HealingWell.  I think you will enjoy our site and make a lot of new friends along the way. In no time, you will feel like you are a part of a big family.

I hear what you are saying about some restaurants.  I also have some food allergies.  I have found that restaurants are taking us a little more serious when we ask if an entrĂ©e or side item has any of things that we are allergic to.  They actually go and check.  Most of the time now, the managers will come out and talk to me and I appreciate that.  Years ago I think the servers would just tell me no, when they had no idea if the food I was ordering had MGS or soy in it.  I get a reaction from those two before I even leave the restaurant.

I think they don't want you to die in their restaurant.

Hi there, I found this forum through a Google search.

My girlfriend is allergic to chicken. She can eat a small amount of turkey without adverse effects. She is not allergic to eggs. I would like to find a way, maybe some type of medication that would make it possible for her to eat chicken without having severe allergic reactions. Chicken is probably my favourite out of all meats and I don't get to eat it very often since we moved in together and I really miss it. So, in this case, because one person is allergic, two people don't get to eat it. NOT FAIR!!!! My other favourite meat is too expensive to eat all the time...........LOBSTER.
