Hi everyone! I was just wondering if anyone has any tips on moving with  asthma? We are moving this weekened into our first house and my son is asthmatic. I plan to have the carpets proffessionaly cleaned. There arent any hardwood floors under the carpeting so removing the carpet isnt an option. Anything else you guys can think of? I have asked his doc and she said just to make sure the carpets are clean and dry.

Your Doc sounds like she gave you good advice.  My only other suggestion would be to keep an eye on your son for any sx that his asthma is flairing.

Make sure the duct vents are clean and a new furnace filter too.

my advice would be not to have venetian blinds in his room and also to put up plain curtains rather than drapes. make sure he gets a little bit of fresh air and his room is not overheated. cleaning the bedding is very important. i have heard that it is best to use hot water because it kills the mites.

i bought a foam mattress and also mite covers but i was just sick of huffing and puffing so much, lol

Shelly does your son suffer from allergies too? If so, does his allergies set off his asthma? If he does have allergies, you might want to see what sort of pollen (tree or otherwise) is in the area. If he does have allergies - do not leave his window open because spring is notorious for causing a bunch of havoc because of the pollen, mold, mildew etc.

If he doesn't have allergies then the only thing I can think of is taking the carpet out of his room and put in tiles or even pergo flooring. Because even if a carpet is professionally cleaned, carpet will still stir up nasties (dust, carpet fibers) and the cleaning sometimes don't even get into the padding which can hold everything that ever happened in that room.

Hi shelly...I agree with red-34..if possible take up the carpets and lay down laminate fllors or even lino which you can hoover then mop with disinfectant....it worked for me and after doing it my night time asthma wheezing almost vanished..Another hint is put the pillows in the freezer for10-15 minutes..every couple of days....it will kill of any bed mites instantly.Try and use household sprays that are non perfumed and eco friendly.I hope your son keeps well ...all the best...groovey.
