Can anyone give me some advice as to how I can increase my endurance with asthma? I don't know much about
my condition, my mother has always handled it, got me inhalers when I needed them and so on. I hardly ever take them however as my asthma isn't terrible. I do find my self having difficulty breathing to a small extent throughout the day but like I said, nothing serious.
Anyways, here is my prediciment. I am in the process of applying with the FBI. I recently completed Phase I of the 3 part process and passed. If I pass phase II, I will be required to pass a PFT (Physical Fitness Training) test which requires a decent 1.5 mile run time, among other things.
I think I have exercise induced asthma although....some days it can be a tad bit difficult to breathe while just sitting, don't know if it has to do with allergies though. Anyways, I have been invovled in basketball my entire life, school and other leagues. Currently I am 26 and have been playing 3-4 games 3-4 days a week along with walking on the treadmill for about an hour. This has been my regular exercise routine for at least 6 months now however I still cannot run or even jog 1 mile without having to stop and walk.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on any possible medications or anything really that could dramatically or otherwise help increase my endurance. Even in highschool when we were running miles a day, I had the hardest time. I had the fastest 40 yard dash on the team, beating out our point guards even though I was 6'4"! I just couldn't maintain that speed for longer than a minute lol. Sigh, thanks in advance for any help.
