Sometimes when I use Albuterol it only helps with the tightenness not so much the coughing. I have noticed a strong cup of coffee helps with my coughing. I feel your pain.

Ask your doctor about Xopenex for your rescue inhaler. I even got a free coupon for one from my Doctor. Albuterol and proventil just have not been as good since they've been made cfc free. Some meds just don't work as well when changed and there was not enough propellent in them to effect the enviroment all that much anyway. There are other ways to protect the enviroment then going around messing with our medicines. I have it on good authority that the global warming is not as bad as the media is making it out to be, the earth has only warmed up a ,10 of a degree in the last 100 years. So try the Xopenex.
Hope you feel better soon and keep us posted.

This might be because you have some inflammation that is causing your symptoms and Albuterol only relaxes the muscles constricting the airways. A higher dose cortisteroid might help.
